CIMdata Announces Free Webinar ‘How Electrification is Transforming PLM Strategies’ on Oct 13, 11AM EDT

ANN ARBOR, MI, USA, Sep 21, 2022 – CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “How Electrification is Transforming PLM Strategies.” The webinar will take place on Thursday, 13 October 2022, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) and will last for one hour.

Products are becoming more complex, a prime example being vehicle electrification, where cars are powered by electricity and controlled by complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, other physics, embedded software, and cloud-based software systems. All aspects of the resulting systems of systems need to be managed.

Managing the mechanical solution is too narrow a view as systems become increasingly complex and all of their aspects become more tightly intertwined to produce innovative products. The resulting strategy for managing multiple systems requires the support of a digitalized ecosystem—that is, a digital transformation focused on systems rather than individual aspects of a product design.

This webinar will present the importance of understanding why and how PLM is becoming more systems focused on supporting the journey to products as systems of systems.

    Attendees at this webinar will:

    • Gain a better understanding of why the complexities of today’s product systems are forcing changes in strategies for using PLM.
    • Discover how PDM had historically stored mechanical CAD and drawings (including wiring schematics) even when there wasn’t much electrification on products.
    • See how PLM is expanding to support electrification and fast-growing product, production, distribution, and services complexity.
    • Understand how systems engineering enables companies to address growing complexity without corresponding increases in staff.

According to John MacKrell, CIMdata’s Chairman and the host for this webinar, “Many organizations CIMdata works with are actively moving their product strategies from a concentration on mechanical aspects to much more complex systems—such as the rapidly evolving electrification of all kinds of products. Operational feedback driving product enhancements is happening at a faster and faster pace. Expansive PLM strategies are a key to realizing the full potential of multi-domain systems development.”

John MacKrell has 40+ years of experience applying computer-based solutions to engineering and manufacturing, with more than 20 years at CIMdata. He has held senior positions in product management, marketing, research and development, and consulting.

This webinar will be helpful to people from all parts of the organization since systems have cross-functional impacts on product design, manufacturing, service, and other downstream product processes and product operations. People from multiple levels will find the information pertinent and valuable: senior and middle managers, PLM team participants, PLM users (engineers, manufacturing planners, installation and services practitioners, and others), IT—anyone impacted by how an organization adopts new digital strategies to support product programs.

During the webinar, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
