STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct 6, 2025 – SSAB is proud to announce that Meneta Group has implemented SSAB Zero steel in its automotive brake components, a significant step toward a more sustainable future in vehicle manufacturing.
This milestone builds on our 2023 announcement of a strategic partnership with Meneta, a global leader in brake components and sealing materials. With SSAB Zero now integrated into Meneta’s production of shims, backplates, clips, and sealing materials, the company is actively reducing its Scope 3 CO₂ emissions. Initial reductions are estimated at 5,500 to 6,000 tonnes annually, with a long-term goal of 60,000 tonnes.
“We are extremely happy to welcome Meneta as a partner for SSAB Zero steel,” said Jan Meier, Sales Director at SSAB Europe. “Together, we are building a fossil-free value chain for the automotive industry, all the way to the end customer.”
SSAB Zero is produced using recycled steel and fossil-free electricity, resulting in zero fossil carbon emissions during production. This aligns with Meneta’s ambition to be among the first suppliers in the automotive industry to offer components with significantly reduced CO₂ footprints.

About SSAB Zero and SSAB Fossil-free
SSAB Zero is steel made from recycled scrap using fossil-free energy sources, resulting in virtually zero emissions from the steelmaking process. SSAB Zero was launched at a commercial scale in 2023.
SSAB Fossil-free steel is produced using the revolutionary HYBRIT-technology, developed by SSAB with mining company LKAB and energy company Vattenfall. Instead of using coal to remove the oxygen from the iron ore, the HYBRIT-technology uses hydrogen gas, produced with fossil-free energy, to make sponge iron for steel production. The carbon dioxide emissions are eliminated, and instead the by-product is water. Today SSAB Fossil-free steel is only available for pilot deliveries.
