NATICK, MA, USA, Aug 21, 2020 – MathWorks introduced Motor Control Blockset , a companion product to Simulink that enables you to design and implement motor control algorithms. Now, motor control systems engineers can use reference examples and Simulink blocks to develop field-oriented control algorithms for turning brushless motors. This blockset extends Simulink’s suite of products for motor control system design , allowing engineers to test algorithms with each design change, generate fast and compact ANSI / ISO C code, and use simulation to validate software , thus reducing certification testing cycles.

MathWorks is collaborating with motor control hardware vendors to develop reference examples to support their motor control kits, starting with various Texas Instruments kits based on their real-time C2000 microcontrollers. Engineers using these kits can automatically calculate motor parameters, generate application code, and turn motors in minutes. Additionally, the Motor Control Blockset can be used with Simulink Real-Time and Speedgoat target equipment for rapid control prototyping, including automatic tuning of field oriented control.
Motor Control Blockset includes:
- Park, Clarke, spatial vector modulation, field fading, peak torque per ampere and other motor control algorithms optimized to generate fast and compact embed code.
- Solver Decoder, Hall Sensor Decoder, Quadrature Codec-Decoder and Slip-Mode Observer for implementing sensorless and sensorless motor control systems.
- Field-Oriented Control Autotuner block to automatically adjust the current and speed loops of field-oriented control architectures.
- Instrumented tests to calculate estimates of motor parameters from experiments with motor hardware.
- Linear motor models of mean value of concentrated parameters to verify control algorithms in a closed loop simulation.
- Reference applications showing how to quickly turn a motor with various motor control hardware kits.
