MIT, Concepts NREC Join to Launch New Advanced Aerospace Engineering Course on Agile Engineering Design System

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT, USA, May 20, 2024 — Concepts NREC is pleased to announce a collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to provide the most comprehensive and robust set of software tools available for turbomachinery design, engineering, and analysis to be used during a new “Advanced Manufacturing for Aerospace Engineers” course debuting in the Fall of 2024.

2024 MIT Course Press Release

The course, jointly designed and taught by Dr. Zachary Cordero and Dr. Zoltán Spakovszky, is a project-based subject in which students design, build, and test an electric turbopump for a notional rocket engine.

Instructors and students will use the full suite of Agile Engineering Design System® (AEDS) and Advanced Rotating Machine Dynamics (ARMD) software tools to design and develop the various components of a single-spool dual-impeller turbopump, and then assemble the components into a fully functional device.

The labs will follow an iterative approach, where students will rigorously apply concepts, principles, and processes using these software modeling tools to realize a complex and high-quality design with accurate modeling and improved performance.

This collaboration will set a baseline standard for aerospace engineering education, and significantly broaden students’ software capabilities in the critical domain of rotating machinery dynamics and their support-bearing systems.

“We are thrilled to support MIT and Dr. Spakovszky in developing the next generation of aerospace engineers”, states Dr. Peter Weitzman, President of Software Sales and Product Development at Concepts NREC. “These students will gain hands-on experience with tools and strategies to solve the most demanding turbomachinery challenges that will arise in their careers.”
