Phillips Machine Tools to Bring Nakamura-Tome’s Multitasking Machining to Indian Manufacturing

PUNE, India, Jul 22, 2025 – Phillips Machine Tools, one of India’s leading providers of manufacturing technology solutions, proudly announces a strategic collaboration with Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry Co., Ltd., Japan. Through this partnership, top- of-the-world-class multitasking machine technology is introduced to India. This partnership offers manufacturers in high-impact industries with enhanced productivity, better cycle time, and easy operations of complex ones.

World-class multitasking machining know-how for Indian manufacturers

Established in 1949, Nakamura-Tome is globally renowned for its multitasking technology of integrating turning, milling, threading, and drilling into a single setup. Renowned for perpetual high-precision performance, the brand machines are used by industry leaders across the globe. With this tie-up, Phillips will now be Nakamura-Tome’s representative in Gujarat, North India, and East India.

“I think everyone in the machine tool world knows Nakamura-Tome. It’s a world-famous name for multitasking precision,” said Mr. Terrence Miranda, Managing Director, Phillips Machine Tools India. “Their turn-mill centers can mill 24×7, 365 days a year, something you rarely see. This brand is synonymous with quality and performance. It completes our metal cutting portfolio and lets us serve manufacturers who require true multitasking.”

Major areas of focus on high-growth sectors and markets

These are included in Phillips’ strategy to bag high-value, export-focused markets such as Gujarat, North India, and Eastern India. These markets also have some of the most thriving manufacturing hubs in aerospace, automotive, medical, and general engineering. These segments involve tight tolerances, cycle-time efficiency, and mixed operations. Nakamura-Tome machines have been engineered to deliver these capabilities.

“In Gujarat, especially with orthopaedic and precision component makers, Nakamura really shines. Similarly, in the North, we see demand from quality-conscious innovators,” Mr. Miranda added. “Our long-term goal is to offer not just machines but fully tooled, automated solutions. It will take time and learning, but we are committed to building this with Nakamura’s expertise.”

From raw to finished: Multitasking that delivers

One of the key machines to be launched through this collaboration is the AS-200—a multitasking solution that embodies Nakamura-Tome’s design philosophy. The goal is to consolidate multiple operations into a single setup. The AS-200 enables complex parts involving turning, milling, threading, and more to be machined within just a few minutes, significantly reducing the need for multiple workstations and manual intervention.

“Traditionally, it might take six or seven different machines to manufacture a single complex part. Our strategy is different. We focus on integration,” said Mr. Shogo Nakamura, CEO and President of Nakamura-Tome. “A thick, large-diameter part with complex geometries can be completely machined on the AS-200. It is a tirue demonstration of smart manufacturing and performance.”

A multitasking lineup designed for flexibility and performance

Apart from the AS-200, Nakamura-Tome’s multitasking range includes a host of machine configurations in compliance with Indian manufacturing needs. The single- turret machines are suitable for confined spaces and provide high efficiency with milling capacity and sub-spindles available as an option. These achieve higher precision on smaller footprints. The two-turret, two-spindle machines suit simultaneous machining jobs, with a maximum of 48 tools and Y-axis capability. Y-axis is standard on top turret in WT series and on both turrets in WY series. These machines have optimal cycle times for mission-critical applications. For shops that require high tool capacity and machining stability, the ATC multitasking machine lineup includes models equipped with an 80-tool magazine and, on select machines, the NT Smart Cube design featuring the world’s shortest tool spindle in its class — ideal for high-speed, complex machining.

This range gives Indian manufacturers the flexibility of selecting the right platform based on part geometry, manufacturing volume, and floor space. Support for all configurations comes from Phillips’ local application know-how and support.

A vision-driven partnership

This partnership is a culmination of years of relationship between the two companies. It is based on trust, shared values, and a common vision of empowering next-generation manufacturing.

“Our partnership with Phillips is built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to customer success,” said Mr. Nakamura. “Phillips has deep application knowledge and strong customer relationships. Together, we are enabling smart and future-ready manufacturing in India.”

Phillips will provide localized support from an expert Nakamura-Tome team for consulting, application engineering, and automation integration.

Towards a smarter manufacturing future

The collaboration sets in a new age of intelligent manufacturing for India. It’s a joint effort to make manufacturing intelligent, lean, and more productive in India. Combined with Phillips’ customer-driven philosophy and domain expertise and Nakamura-Tome’s technical strengths, the joint venture aims to establish multitasking as the first choice strategy for futuristic manufacturers. “We focus on delivering technology that makes a real difference to our customers. It’s about enabling performance, supporting growth, and building long-term value,” Mr. Miranda said.
