CHARLOTTE, NC, USA, Sep 18, 2024, – Axtra3D is excited to announce that Protolabs, a global leader in digital manufacturing, has adopted the Lumia X1 to enhance its Additive Manufacturing production workflow. The Lumia X1 will be a valuable addition to Protolabs’ extensive SLA printing services.
Recognized as the fastest and most comprehensive digital manufacturing service in the world, Protolabs launched its 3D printing services over a decade ago. Today, we are proud to see the Lumia X1 represented in their manufacturing facility in Raleigh, NC, contributing to their mission of accelerating product development from prototyping to production.
One of the primary reasons Protolabs chose the Lumia X1 is its unique combination of throughput, accuracy, resolution and surface finish. The Hi-Speed SLA capability aligns with Protolabs’ commitment to delivering high-quality products with rapid turnaround times.
”We are constantly evaluating our service offering to ensure we are meeting the demands of our customers at all stages of the product development process,” 3D Printing Director of Manufacturing Operations Kenny Capps said. “The addition of the Lumia X1 allows us to offer greater speed in SLA technology while providing access to more functional materials, in addition to the part quality our customers expect.”
Protolabs plans to optimize its services by utilizing the BASF Ultracur® 3D RG 3280 material with the Lumia X1. The material, known for its excellent mechanical properties and durability, is capable of robust, high-performance parts that meet the stringent requirements of their customers, as well as injection mold inserts.
The Lumia X1 also excels in producing electrical connectors with unparalleled part fidelity and accuracy. This capability will significantly enhance Protolabs’ ability to quickly mass-produce connectors, meeting the growing demand for high-quality, reliable components in various industries, including for end-use parts.
“We are thankful for the collaboration and partnership with Protolabs and the relationship we have cultivated thus far,” said Rajeev Kulkarni, CSO at Axtra3D. “We are confident that the adoption of the Lumia X1 will support Protolabs in pushing the boundaries of digital manufacturing. Together, we hope to continue growing and form a strategic partnership to support their customers.”
About Axtra3D
Based in the US and Italy, Axtra3D is a global company specializing in Hi-Speed SLA systems that eliminates tradeoffs between print throughput, accuracy, feature resolution, and surface finish, typically found in traditional SLA or DLP systems.
The flagship Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA system by Axtra3D represents a significant advancement, combining its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis resin polymerization process with TruLayer, a layer separation technology. HPS utilizes both a laser and a DLP to image simultaneously, while TruLayer enables rapid detachment of the active print layer, resulting in a 20X throughput improvement while preserving the accuracy and fidelity of SLA parts.
With a curated material portfolio, Axtra3D has developed over 15 certified solutions for industries such as Industrial, Healthcare, and Dental, serving a global customer base. These solutions range from direct-use ceramic molds to end-use electrical connectors, industrial parts, dental prosthetics, medical devices, jewelry patterns, and more. Axtra3D’s systems are available in North America, the EU, and Japan, and a broad range of customers have already benefitted from its diverse range of applications.
