Align’s Invisalign System with Mandibular Advancement Featuring Occlusal Blocks for Class II Skeletal, Dental Correction Available in US, Canada

SAN JOSE, CA, TEMPE, AZ and PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA, Apr 25, 2025 – Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN), a leading global medical device company that designs, manufactures, and sells the Invisalign System of clear aligners, iTero intraoral scanners, and exocad CAD/CAM software for digital orthodontics and restorative dentistry, today announced commercial availability in the U.S. and Canada of the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks designed specifically to address Class II skeletal and dental correction by simultaneously advancing the mandible while aligning the teeth. This innovative solution is Align’s first clear aligner product with integrated solid occlusal blocks that deliver predictable mandibular advancement. Invisalign occlusal blocks provide durability, improve engagement, and enable vertical opening to offer earlier advancement of the mandible in cases like Class II deep bite to improve treatment efficiency.

The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks (also referred to as MAOB) is the latest clinical innovation that expands Align’s Class II treatment portfolio for growing patients by offering practitioners a comprehensive solution for treating growing patients with Class II malocclusions caused by mandibular retrusion. Class II malocclusion is one of the most common orthodontic problems, characterized by a discrepancy in jaw alignment where the lower jaw (mandible) is positioned too far back relative to the upper jaw (maxilla) and represents approximately 30-45% of malocclusions globally. This condition can lead to functional, aesthetic, and other challenges for patients if left untreated.

The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks is primarily intended for growing patients in the late mixed or early permanent dentition stages (ages 10-16), who are still experiencing growth. By leveraging the natural growth potential during pre-adolescence and adolescence, the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks facilitates effective correction of Class II malocclusions, helping to improve occlusal relationships, enhance facial aesthetics, and provide long-term functional benefits, including:

  • Efficient treatment. Minimizes the need for multiple appliances to treat conditions including severe deep bite. Treats Class II malocclusions while simultaneously aligning the teeth in a single, efficient process. Invisalign occlusal blocks are solid with laser welding, which ensures structural rigidity and durability throughout the treatment, to minimize crushing. The solid occlusal blocks allow for vertical opening and enables the Mandibular Advancement (MA) phase to begin sooner for Class ll deep bite cases or Class II div 2 patients who many times would have needed a pre-MA phase. Some crossbite cases may still need pre-MA.
  • Elevated patient comfort(1) and compliance(2). Made from patented SmartTrack™ material, which is predictable and more comfortable(1). Studies show that patient discomfort with functional appliances affects patient compliance with the prescribed wear time and could lead to unsatisfactory outcomes(2).
  • Predictable tooth movement. Attachments are allowed on the teeth under the blocks to facilitate leveling and other movement or to help prevent unwanted movements(3). By combining SmartTrack™ material, SmartForce™ features, and SmartStage™ technology, it also allows for more predictable tooth movement(1).

“I am proud to announce commercial availability of the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks (MAOB) for the U.S. and Canada, our largest market for growing patients,” said Srini Kaza, Align Technology EVP, research and development. “This advancement is a direct response to the needs of orthodontic practices and underscores Align’s ongoing commitment to innovation in orthodontics that enhances clinical outcomes and patient experience. By integrating occlusal blocks into our mandibular advancement feature, we are providing doctors with a powerful new tool to effectively treat growing patients with Class II malocclusions—while maintaining the esthetic and comfort benefits of clear aligner therapy.”

“The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks reflects Align’s continued commitment to expanding the capabilities of the Invisalign System, enabling doctors to treat a wider range of malocclusions with precision and efficiency, and helps to continue to advance clear aligners as the standard of care in digital orthodontics,” said Sreelakshmi Kolli, Align Technology EVP, chief product and digital officer. “This latest innovation demonstrates our significant investment in delivering digital orthodontic solutions to growing patients that empower doctors to achieve predictable outcomes while enhancing the patient experience.”

“The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks represents a breakthrough in Class II treatment with clear aligners by allowing doctors to simultaneously address dental and skeletal discrepancies in a more predictable and efficient manner,” said Dr. Mitra Derakhshan, Align Technology EVP and chief clinical officer, Global Treatment Planning and Clinical Services. “The integration of occlusal blocks enhances mandibular engagement as well as provides bite opening, making this a versatile solution for different Class II malocclusions, including deep bite or div 2. The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks gives doctors and patients a better option for Class II correction in growing patients while simultaneously straightening their teeth, including more options for feature placement, such as attachments on teeth underneath the blocks (3).”

At Spillers Orthodontics we are so excited to have another tool for Class II correction. The MAOB is an amazing Class II corrector with very few issues compared to other Class II correctors in our office. The MAOB is unique in that it allows for tooth movement under the blocks by allowing attachment placement under the blocks. The unique design helps with deep bite cases by opening the bite resulting in not requiring a Pre-MA phase in a lot of patients. It has truly been a game changer for us and our patients,” said Dr. Don Spillers, an orthodontist based in Warner Robins, Georgia.

“I’ve been part of early access doctors in the U.S. and have been using MAOB for almost all of my Class II Invisalign patients and it has become the standard of care for Class II treatment in my practice,” said Dr. Kent Morris, an orthodontist based in Cincinnati, Ohio. “I am thrilled with the efficiency of the occlusal blocks. My patients find the occlusal blocks comfortable, and they are able to naturally position their mandible. Transitioning to aligner treatment after Class II correction is also seamless. I’m very pleased with Align’s advancement in technology for Class II correction.”

“The consistent results from MAOB have been great,” said Dr. David Boschken, an orthodontist in Los Altos, California. “MAOB shows promising skeletal class II correction in my practice in severe deep bite cases and overjet cases over 5mm. It is exciting to have another option for Class II skeletal correction!”

“I’m very happy with the new Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks design,” said Dr. Belinda Weltman, Vancouver, BC. “Patients can bite down easily without risk of damaging or distorting the blocks, and the mandibular advanced position is easy to maintain. My young patients have found it very easy to transition to this appliance with minimal discomfort, and compliance has been a breeze.”

“The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks provides the ideal block engagement that helps hold the mandible in the proper position for patients that also have mandibular asymmetry. This allows for more efficient corrections when desired,” said Dr. Francis Janisse, Windsor, Ontario. “Invisalign occlusal blocks remove the need for auxiliary elastics, which removes one more obstacle for patients. In addition, the trays do not require palatal coverage like traditional removable Class ll correctors, and there are no changes in the insertion and removal process of the aligners. My younger patients love the ability to remove the aligners for eating, which is not commonly an option for patients that require fixed Class ll correctors or elastics.”

Availability and Ordering Information

Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks is now commercially available to Invisalign-trained doctors in the U.S. and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, is available on a limited market release in most EMEA countries, and is expected to be introduced in additional markets throughout 2025. Along with the Invisalign® Palatal Expander System, Invisalign First and Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring enhanced precision wings, this latest innovation supports the commitment to establishing a unique and differentiated portfolio that supports growing patients throughout their continuum of care.

VOLTA introduces metadata template import and export, simplifying metadata management. modeFRONTIER comes with MUSA, a new multi-strategy island-based algorithm designed to enhance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of traditional metamodeling and optimization techniques.

Release highlights:

Build your own optimization approach with the new MUSA multi-strategy island-based algorithm

The MUSA algorithm now available in modeFRONTIER offers a new way to create custom design optimization approaches by combining diverse traditional metamodeling and optimization techniques. Its island-based architecture divides the optimization process into subpopulations (islands), each running distinct algorithms. This capability enables you to select and integrate a variety of modeFRONTIER’s algorithms — such as genetic, gradient-based methods, or response surface models — into a customized strategy. By doing so, you can significantly enhance the effectiveness and potential of your design optimization approach. By integrating a synergistic approach with parallel processing facilitated by the island structure, MUSA enables customization of its strategy to suit the specific requirements of any optimization task.

Automatic tagging for Python scripts

For those using the CPython or Python node, the task of tagging the parameters becomes even more convenient with automatic parameter detection. With just one click, all potential parameters are extracted, allowing you to select exactly what you need.

Introducing the new Parameter Chooser in modeFRONTIER

The new Parameter Chooser allows you to gain efficiency and control in linking your model parameters to the modeFRONTIER workflow, thanks to the following key benefits:

  • Side-by-side visualization: easily compare inputs and outputs.
  • Flexible workflow building: view and link any data node in the workflow.
  • Streamlined navigation and filtering: quickly find and connect nodes and parameters.
  • Automatic linking of parameters and nodes: reduce time and effort.
  • Enhanced visualization of linked items.

VOLTA simplifies metadata management

System administrators now have the ability to easily import metadata templates, allowing them to quickly integrate new configurations into their systems. Additionally, they can export a complete list of metadata templates, providing a comprehensive overview of all available configurations. BETA CAE Systems Releases ANSA, EPILYSIS, META, KOMVOS, FATIQ v24.1.5

0

LUCERNE, Switzerland, Apr 23, 2025 – BETA CAE Systems is thrilled to announce the bug-fix version 24.1.5, for ANSA, EPILYSIS, META, KOMVOS, and FATIQ.

Follows an overview of the most important items:

Known issues resolved in ANSA

Modular Run Management

The Build Process of Library Items would fail, when Nastran parameter name length exceeded 10 characters.

Furthermore, referencing Simulation Model Build Performance, “Build Action > Check Assembly Status” function execution has been accelerated by 70%.

Shell Mesh

Upon “Cut” action under “Direct Edit” function, the option to provide tangential point would not work for mesh without underlying geometry.

Decks

ANSA would freeze during output in case Set ranges, containing ids above deck limit, existed.

Laminate Tool

Unexpected termination would occur when multiple layers were selected from GL area and modifications were applied in the layer attribute side panel.

Cross Section

“Beamify > Structure” function execution would apply the section offset incorrectly for Abaqus beams.

Scripting

ANSA would abort abruptly during input of multiple files along with post input script.

Known issues resolved in META

Decks

Concerning nCode, results on elements were not loaded correctly and spotweld results from .fer files were not loaded properly.

Focusing on LS-DYNA, bad handling of type *ELEMENT_TSHELL_BETA led to erroneous properties and possible unexpected termination while saving METADB.

Managing Curve Data

Integral attributes of a curve were not calculated when getting the attributes by script.

Auto Range on plot axis was not functional when navigating through curves, present in groups.

NVH Calculators

Focusing on FRF Assembly, in case FRF_LOAD_DOF string was not present in all subcases of a Nastran .pch file, used for FRF Component definition, incorrect results were generated.

Report

When saving the respective .xlsx file, the font size of the row and column headers was not set to a readable size.

File Export

When saving nodes to CSV format, multiple lines would be written per node.

Session Editor

The Static to Dynamic parameters window would not show the options properly in 4K resolution monitors.

Known issues resolved in KOMVOS

CAD Import/ Export

Upon Input Model Definition, when the input source format in the OS settings was other than the “English (Unites States)” the transformation matrices were not read properly.

KOMVOS would create unnecessary copies in the TMP folder upon Export or Edit of compound DM items. Now, both performance and disk space utilization are improved.

Upon Import, attached files/folders with DM Attributes will not appear in the attributes list of the Import wizard.

The function “Promote Version” would report success, even in cases where it failed due to missing versioning ACLs.

Compatibility and Supported Platforms

ANSA files saved by all the first and second-point releases of a major version are compatible to each other. New major versions can read files saved by previous ones but not vice versa.

META Project files saved from version 24.1.3 are compatible and can be opened by META version 16.0.0 or later.

Support for Mac OS has been discontinued.

Support for 32-bit platforms has been discontinued for all operating systems.

All files required for the installation of this version reside in the folders named “BETA_CAE_Systems_v24.1.5”“KOMVOS_v24.1.5”, and “FATIQ_v24.1.5”, and are dated as of April 15, 2025. These files should replace any pre-releases or other files downloaded prior to that date.
The distribution of this version of our pre- and post-processing suite is packaged in one, single, unified installation file, that invokes the respective installer and guides the procedure for the installation of the required components.

For the installation of the software on each platform type, download from the respective folders, the .sh file for Linux or the .msi file for Windows.

In addition to the above, optionally, the META Viewer is available to be downloaded for each supported platform.

The tutorials and the example files reside in the folder named “TUTORIALS”. This folder includes a complete package and one with only the updated files.

The Abaqus libraries required for the post-processing of Abaqus .odb files are included in the installation package and can be optionally unpacked.

Earlier software releases are also available in the sub-directory called “Previous_Versions” or in a folder named after the product and version number.
