NEXTSENSE Launches CALIPRI CB20, CaliBreeze Technology for Gap, Flush Measurement in Automotive Industry

0

GRAZ, Austria, Aug 13, 2020 – The latest development from NEXTSENSE, part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, brings a ‘touch’ of freshness to gap and flush measurement in the automotive industry.

NSe1-122With the latest product CALIPRI CB20 and the patented CaliBreeze technology, NEXTSENSE takes surface measurement to a new level

With the CALIPRI CB20 and the unique CaliBreeze technology, it is now possible to measure surfaces that were not measurable before. It works in the same way as cleaning glasses: by ‘breathing’ on the measurement object for a short moment a diffuse reflection of the laser lines is created. After the measurement, the vapour layer evaporates without residue.

Thanks to this technology, measurement is now possible on any surface. Even transparent materials such as glass or plastic, highly-reflective surfaces such as chrome, as well as difficult colors or material combinations, where conventional technologies reach their limits, can be measured precisely and reproducibly with the CALIPRI CB20 and CaliBreeze technology.

This novelty on the market is both a revolution in optical measurement technology and a further development of the industry-known automated solution CALIPRI C12. This unique innovation is intended to better meet the requirements of automobile manufacturers for flush and gap measurement.

About NEXTSENSE GmbH

With its unique CALIPRI principle, NEXTSENSE is the world leader in mobile profile measurement and surface inspection, especially in wear measurement of rail and track, gap and offset measurement in the automotive industry and profile measurement of hot steel profiles. Customers include numerous all major railway companies, well-known international car manufacturers and forward-looking steel producers. Among them are names such as Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, China Railways, Daimler, JLR, Audi, BMW, voestalpine and ArcelorMittal. For more information, visit https://www.nextsense-worldwide.com.

Tekla Structural Designer 2020 Update Features Bidirectional Link to Fabsec FBEAM

0

SUNNYVALE, CA, USA, Aug 13, 2020 – A new partnership between Trimble and Fabsec in the UK sees the launch of a bidirectional link between Trimble’s latest Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) 2020 update and Fabsec FBEAM® software.

The link means data can flow freely between the two packages, saving design time and ensuring the most efficient project solution is achieved.

Building under construction

Structural and consulting engineers, as well as D&B fabricators of steel-framed buildings, are able to download the free FBEAM software from the Fabsec website, and design long span cellular beams to the Eurocode.

Typically used for primary and secondary floor beams on multi-storey projects, applications include composite and non-composite plain or cellular beam construction with floor spans of 8-24 metres.

Offering enhanced architectural freedom, and particularly suitable for irregular shaped openings, the software allows maximum flexibility of web service penetration including circles, rectangles and elongated shapes in whatever position required.

Rather than selecting an off-the-shelf solution, an engineer is able to create a design that offers the optimum beam with any beam depth, flange width or web/flange thicknesses (including asymmetric beams); creating lighter beams that can also offer cost savings.

Providing a more accurate and efficient process, the Tekla Structural Designer 2020 bidirectional link allows the user to pull one, or hundreds, of Fabsec beams into the FBEAM® software for design and loading. This new, time-saving approach eliminates the need to design each beam in isolation, avoiding manual data input as well as the risk of human error.

Commenting on the partnership that has made this happen, Sharon Green, Fabsec Business Development Manager said: “Fabsec started in 2001 and since then FBEAM® has established itself as the industry’s leading software solution for the design of plated cellular beams in ambient and fire conditions.

Fabsec cellular beams

“With a track record of continuous development, to ensure FBEAM® remains at the forefront of engineers’ needs, we are pleased to announce our recent partnership with Trimble to develop this import/export regime between FBEAM® and Tekla Structural Designer. This latest update allows a seamless transfer of data between the two software packages making the design and specification of FBEAM® plate girders even more streamlined.

“This new feature will help structural engineers to improve their workflows, allowing any number of options to be reviewed effortlessly with the additional benefit of the ambient design properties being synchronised to optimise the fire design within FBEAM®.”

Availability

Fabsec software is only compatible with the latest Tekla Structural Designer 2020 release and can be downloaded in the UK from the company’s website www.fabsec.co.uk

AVEVA Donates Over £100K Worth 3D Virtualization Technology to Support the Restoration of TS Queen Mary

0

LONDON, UK, Aug 10, 2020 – AVEVA, a global leader in engineering and industrial software, has donated over £100,000 (GBP) worth of 3D visualization shipbuilding software to support the restoration of the TS Queen Mary, an iconic steamship built in 1933 to serve Glasgow and the West of Scotland. AVEVA will supply its purpose-built solution for shipbuilding that offers integrated 1D, 2D and 3D engineering and design tools pro bono to support the Friends of TS Queen Mary and naval architects Brookes Bell restore the vessel.

ts-queen-maryTS Queen Mary

The transformation of the TS Queen Mary follows a historic life in service, during which she regularly transported more than 13,000 passengers a week throughout World War II and maintained vital transport services on the River Clyde. The last vessel of her kind in the world listed in the Core 40 fleet of the UK’s National Historic Ship Register, as a ship of national pre-eminence.

HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, is royal Patron of the ship. It transported King George VI, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret as well as Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt during World War II. The ship is being restored as a heritage destination in Glasgow and will be open to members of the public in 2022.

Advanced Shipbuilding Software – Ideal for Complex Briefs and Accurate 3D Modelling

Friends of TS Queen Mary and Brookes Bell chose AVEVA’s shipbuilding solution to capture the complex shapes of the ship’s design so that they can begin the restoration process.  The software used previously was not parametric, meaning it required a great deal of manual input, increasing the risk of potential inaccuracies in models and drawings, resulting in more design iterations. The introduction of AVEVA’s advanced shipbuilding software will enable the original vessel structure to be 3D-modelled accurately and in detail, seamlessly linking the model to construction and production drawings, so that shipyard production information for replacement parts can be efficiently produced.

AVEVA provides world-leading marine software solutions for the design, production and modification of large and complex projects in the offshore and shipbuilding industries. Offering the full-lifecycle solution from engineering and design, through resource management to smart production into asset performance management and monitoring and control, AVEVA’s shipbuilding technology is the most complete in the market and can integrate the complete shipbuilding process. Once the design phase is completed, AVEVA will use TS Queen Mary’s data – in partnership with the Friends organization – for internal training and future product testing to support the development of vessels for decades to come.

AVEVA is Committed to Sustaining Iconic Treasures

Craig Hayman, CEO of AVEVA, said: “AVEVA is incredibly proud to be supporting the Friends of TS Queen Mary with the restoration this historic vessel. The Queen Mary is a shining example of the UK’s history of innovation and design and this restoration and preservation opportunity taking advantage our state-of-the-art software is an accolade that we are proud to earn. This project will not only enable us to learn more about this historic ship and its famous predecessors but will also provide great insight and know-how for the future development and restoration of similar vessels.”

Andy McGibbon, Senior Naval Architect, Brookes Bell, said: “This is a very exciting project, and with AVEVA’s Shipbuilding & Marine Lifecycle Solutions, we’re able to completely transform the design and restoration process – driving huge improvements in design efficiency, quality, and ensuring that the design is fault free and the vessel is sympathetically restored for the benefit of future generations.”

Iain Sim, Chairman of Friends of TS Queen Mary, said: “Having a fully functional 3D model is a key part of our conservation plan for TS Queen Mary. With AVEVA’s support, we can improve the accuracy and efficiency of the detailed design and steel renewal phases. The commitment to TS Queen Mary from the British marine sector is overwhelming; we are truly grateful to the whole AVEVA team.”

The TS Queen Mary has been described as “The last survivor of her class anywhere in the world” –  a shining example of the iconic Clyde steamer class of ships. Now being preserved as a museum ship, TS Queen Mary was powered by three direct drive steam turbines, and carried 2,086 passengers, making her the largest excursion turbine on the River Clyde.

About AVEVA

AVEVA is a global leader in engineering and industrial software driving digital transformation across the entire asset and operations life cycle of capital-intensive industries.  The company’s engineering, planning and operations, asset performance, and monitoring and control solutions deliver proven results to over 16,000 customers across the globe. About Friends of TS Queen Mary

Charity Friends of TS Queen Mary was set up to rescue, restore and reopen the famous Clyde-built turbine steamship, the Queen Mary. The charity has raised and invested £3,000,000 (in cash and in-kind) in the project to restore and re-open her as a heritage destination, at Glasgow Science Centre.

History of the TS Queen Mary

TS Queen Mary is the last remaining turbine steamship to be built in Scotland. Built in 1933, she once sailed ‘doon the watter’ from Glasgow to destinations such as Dunoon, Rothesay, Millport and Arran. Her place as a national treasure was secured in 1996 when she was listed on the United Kingdom’s official historical ships register and she’s now the last of her kind in the world. During World War II she carried King George VI, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), Princess Elizabeth, and Princess Margaret and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, the future Prime Minister Anthony Eden and Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery. In her retirement, she served the City of London, at Waterloo Bridge, between 1987 and 2009.
