Bricsys Releases BricsCAD v20.2

0

GHENT, Belgium, Apr 20, 2020 – Following the Bricsys tradition of continuous product improvement, we’re announcing the immediate availability of BricsCAD V20.2 for Windows, macOS and Linux. More than a “dot release”, V20.2 brings new features, enhancements and fixes to BricsCAD, BricsCAD BIM and BricsCAD Mechanical. Tired of CAD software that costs more and delivers less? If so, you need to meet BricsCAD.

bricsys_V20.2

New features, enhancements and fixes in BricsCAD V20.2 includes :

User Interface

First, right at the heart of the BricsCAD user interface, we’re introducing a new floating command line with clickable options. There’s a new Civil menu and toolbar for our site modeling, grading and alignment functionality. We’ve improved support for high-resolution displays and added a series of tool palette improvements to help users work the way they choose.

Performance and multi-threading

As we said earlier, continuous improvement doesn’t just mean new features. Line-type generation for display and plot output is faster. Also, we’re continuously refactoring BricsCAD to utilize today’s multicore CPUs whenever possible. In V20.2, BricsCAD supports up to four “helper threads” when loading point cloud files. This can accelerate loading 2-3 times, while significantly reducing memory requirements.

While we’re on the subject of multi-threading, BricsCAD V20.2 supports helper threads for several solid modeling operations – auditing, model simplification and mass properties calculations of complex assemblies. The use of multi-threading keeps BricsCAD responsive during these complex calculations, helping you to get more work done, faster. And speaking of BricsCAD Mechanical, there are a powerful series of enhancements to the Animation Editor, Bills of Materials and support of custom material properties.

Building Information Modeling

BricsCAD BIM V20.2 delivers smarter IFC auto-classification by automatically detecting profile types. BIMSections perform better and deliver better, more precise renderings of sections and elevations. BIMTags can denote load-bearing directions, and new BIM profile settings keep track of your standard libraries. The A.I.-powered Propagate workflow is improved to support more cases, making it easier to raise the LOD of your BIM model in a continuous way.

And much, much more…

This just scratches the surface of the new features, enhancements and fixes in BricsCAD V20.2. With nearly 80 improvements to the BricsCAD APIs, we’re enabling developers to create more powerful applications that run on BricsCAD. And over 150 fixes help ensure a quick and reliable CAD platform for your drafting, 3D modeling, Building Information Modeling and Mechanical Design workflows.

ESI Joins the Fight Against COVID-19 with Folding@Home Computing Project

0

PARIS, France, Apr 17, 2020 – ESI Group, a world player in virtual prototyping software and services for industrials, is joining Folding@Home (FaH) project in the United States, making the computing power of its servers available to accelerate research on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

esi_group

Launched 20 years ago at Stanford University, Folding@Home (FaH) is a distributed computing project for performing molecular dynamics simulations of protein dynamics. Its initial focus was on protein folding but has shifted to more biomedical problems, such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, COVID-19, and Ebola.

Folding@Home uses computer simulation to predict the dynamics of diseases like COVID-19 and understand the proteins’ moving parts thanks to 3D modeling. Watching how the atoms in a protein related to the virus move relative to one another is important because it captures valuable information that is inaccessible by any other means.

This project runs on the unused computing power of computers, phones and formerly PS3s from thousands of thousands of volunteers, both individuals and corporates.

ESI Group joined in March 2020 the fight to defeat COVID-19, combining their high-performance CPU and Graphics computing power with the Folding@Home network which is now pushing out an impressive 470 PetaFLOPS of raw compute power. Contributing to this project has provided an amazing look at the power of collaboration since the Folding@Home overall computational power now dwarfs the IBM SUMMIT supercomputer, considered as the fastest in the world, capable of 200 petaFLOPS, i.e. 1.88 billion calculations per second.

Taking the experimental structures as starting points, scientists and engineers can simulate how all the atoms in the protein move, effectively filling in the rest of the game that experiments miss. This can reveal new opportunities – new ways to render the virus ineffective and powerless against human immune systems.

One solution can be used to increase and accelerate simulations: multiply the computing power by using thousands of computers around the world. ESI Group is actively involved in this dynamic.

Folding@Home reports that it has seen a 1,200% increase in contributors, with Bitcoin miners also joining the fight, and over 400,000 new volunteers joining over the last two weeks.

James Hartley, North America IT Manager underlines: “We have truly embodied the values within ESI’s culture of passion, social responsibility and energy to bring this initiative to fruition, working together with our team in France to realign and support the efforts”
