TAOYUAN, Taiwan, Dec 4, 2025 – TRUMPF, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment core component based in Germany, inaugurated its new regional Technical Center for plasma generators in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The aim of the new Technical Center is to strengthen customer closeness, to reduce service times, lowering carbon footprint, and supporting the circular economy of customers in the Asian semiconductor industry by refurbishing and extending the lifetime of TRUMPF equipment. “This investment underscores our long-standing commitment to Taiwan and the rest of Asia. The semiconductor industry faces enormous challenges: ever smaller structures, an increasing 3D-Topography, new materials, and the highest demands for precision and energy efficiency. Our technologies enable the industry to drive innovation cycles and produce the next generation of high-performance chips for applications such as artificial intelligence, mobile communications, and cloud computing,” said Dr. Berthold Schmidt, CTO of TRUMPF. The Service Center will serve as a regional hub – not only for Taiwan, but also for Japan, entire Southeast Asia, and South Korea.
Technology for Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing
TRUMPF technologies – including cutting-edge EUV laser systems, high-power lasers, and advanced plasma generators – play a pivotal role in the fabrication of high-performance, energy-efficient microchips used in artificial intelligence, smartphones, and data centers worldwide.
The newly inaugurated Technical Center is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure dedicated to the analysis, service, and calibration of TRUMPF plasma generators. These generators are key components enabling the production of advanced nodes – the next generation of microchips. By generating plasma under precisely controlled conditions, they enable the creation of ultra-fine structures on silicon wafers, essential for multi-layered chip architectures.
Plasma generators from TRUMPF are capable of ramping extremely high voltages up and down several hundred thousand times per second. These short, powerful pulses allow semiconductor manufacturers to produce 3D-structures in the nanometer range with exceptional precision and highest aspect ratio – a critical capability for the continued advancement of microelectronics.
Strong Partnership
TRUMPF is a trusted partner to leading semiconductor equipment manufacturers and chip producers worldwide. As a global market and technology leader in laser systems for manufacturing and EUV lithography, TRUMPF plays a key role in supporting the semiconductor industry. Its teams are regularly present in fabrication facilities across Taiwan, providing support for installations and service.
The company has been active in Taiwan for more than 30 years, operating five sites and employing approximately 160 people.
