ODA Starts Scan to BIM SDK Development

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, USA, Jan 19, 2022 – Open Design Alliance (ODA), provider of complete interoperability solutions for CAD and BIM, announced today the official start of development for its new Scan to BIM SDK (Software Development Kit).

The Scan to BIM SDK will convert point cloud data from 3D laser scanners into parametric Autodesk® Revit® models. Applications of Scan to BIM include as-built documentation, project additions and renovations, and facility management.

“Scan to BIM is widely used in construction today,” said Neil Peterson, ODA President. “But companies are often using an ad hoc collection of tools, and sometimes significant manual efforts, to convert scanned point cloud data to Revit.

“ODA is taking a more strategic approach. Our Scan to BIM project is a collaborative effort supported by nearly a dozen major industry vendors to develop a standard, automated solution for this complex problem. It’s competing companies, working together through Open Design Alliance, to develop a best-in-class solution at an economical cost, that will later be licensed to the broader industry.

“Any company or organization that would like to get in on the ground floor of this important project can visit our website and contact us for more details.”

Availability and Pricing

The Scan to BIM SDK is being developed by a Strategic Interoperability Group (SIG) within ODA. The cost to join the SIG is $20,000 per year (must be Sustaining level ODA member or higher to join). More information can be found at opendesign.com/scan-to-bim.
