EOS Joins MAT‑H2 Consortium to Advance Additive Manufacturing Materials for Hydrogen Economy

KRAILLING, Germany and TURKU, Finland, Jul 30, 2026 – EOS, a leading provider of responsible manufacturing solutions through industrial 3D printing technology, has joined the MAT‑H2 consortium, a collaborative initiative focused on advancing materials and technologies that support the transition to the hydrogen economy.

The consortium brings together leading industrial and research organizations to address material-related challenges associated with hydrogen applications. EOS contributes to the project with its expertise in metal material development and additive manufacturing (AM) to support the reliable and efficient use of hydrogen-powered systems.

Hydrogen is expected to play a key role in reducing emissions across energy-intensive industries and power generation. However, hydrogen environments place demanding requirements on metallic materials, making the development of suitable materials and manufacturing processes essential for future adoption.

“Hydrogen will play an important role in the future energy landscape, but its successful adoption depends on solving complex material challenges. Additive manufacturing is a key enabler in this process, creating new opportunities to develop, test, and optimize materials and components for hydrogen environments with greater speed and flexibility. Through the MAT-H2 consortium, EOS is helping bridge the gap between research and industrial implementation by contributing expertise in metal AM, material characterization, and application-driven development.” Paula Kainu, Industrial Manager Energy at EOS.

Consortium Combines Industrial and Research Expertise

The MAT‑H2 consortium is built around a collaborative ecosystem of industrial leaders and research organizations working to advance hydrogen technologies. The initiative is centered on Wärtsilä’s hydrogen-related development activities called WISE – Wide and Intelligent Sustainable Energy, a Business Finland co-funded collaboration. EOS contributing specialized expertise in additive manufacturing and material characterization. The project will strengthen collaboration between industrial manufacturers, research organizations, and technology providers, helping to translate research outcomes into real-world industrial applications.
