PARIS, France, Jun 23, 2020 – E-on software, a leading global developer of software for the creation, animation, rendering, and integration of natural 3D environments in the computer graphics, VFX, architecture, and gaming industries, announced the immediate availability of the R5 Release of its VUE, PlantFactory and PlantCatalog Exporter software.

EbNEI_EWkAE6_7e

A new free trial version is also available of its VUE and PlantFactory software which includes all the updates from R5.

The full release note details are available online at https://info.e-onsoftware.com/release-notes-june2020

NVIDIA OptiX and Intel Open Source Image Denoisers for the Path Tracer

The Path Tracer now includes two denoisers: The Nvidia OptiX and Intel Open Source Image Denoisers. The denoisers will remove noise from a path-traced render, based on machine-learning technology. Effectively, users can use less samples for rendering and remove noise automatically after the render is finished, which results in much faster rendering times.

Denoising is supported both with the interactive Path Tracer in the viewport and with the offline Path Tracer. By using the denoiser with the interactive Path Tracer, users will get an almost realtime preview of their scene in a much better quality than what OpenGL can offer.

Vastly Improved Displacement

Displacement was massively improved in R5. It works faster, consumes less memory and generates way better displaced geometry. Three new displacement subdivision options were added in the material editor: no subdivision, dynamic subdivision and uniform subdivision. Shadow terminator handling in the render engines was also significantly improved thanks to new interpolation methods, yielding far better finer details and avoids shading artefacts in rendered images and animations.

Satellite maps for Real-World terrains

The real-world terrain import (introduced in R4) can now import satellite maps for automatic texturing of imported terrain data. Users may select satellite data from sentinel-2 or from USGS, and VUE will import the maximum available texture resolution together with the heightfield elevation data information of the selected area.

PlantFactory real-time PBR viewport

PlantFactory has received a viewport facelift – but it’s more than just cosmetics. The new viewport is fully PBR compliant with accurate PBR material previewing, has better responsiveness and performance and introduces a customizable sky model that casts ambient light into the scene for more accurate and comfortable previewing while authoring vegetation species.

Integration technology updates

The VUE integration plugins are now supported in Autodesk 3ds Max 2021, Autodesk Maya 2020* and Cinema4D up to S22*. Additionally, VUE is now compatible with V-Ray Standalone RenderNodes for Maya.

The PlantFactory importer plugins technology previews are also now supported in 3ds Max 2021, Maya 2020 on Windows and Maya 2019 on MacOS. The tech previews also add support for automatic material conversion to Arnold materials and V-Ray Next. Additionally, the plugins can now convert animated vegetation models to animated points.

*Windows only

Other notable new features in VUE and PlantFactory R5

As with previous quarterly releases, e-on software has also added many other new features and UI/UX enhancements such as:

  1. Cloud Morphing now supports material animation, plus is more performant and renders faster, VUE will automatically recognize and load sets of PBR texture maps (color/albedo, normal, roughness and many more) following preset and user-defined file name tags,
  2. The Path Tracer now supports PBR channels with variable intensities through texture maps as well as semi-transparent and semi-reflective materials,
  3. Python is upgraded to version 3.8, gets a new GUI, new documentation and a horde of new functions,
  4. Mesh smoothing is up to 4 times faster, and displacement mapping preparation is up to 4.5 times faster,
  5. Billboard export now supports PBR channels,  Substance materials can now easily be rotated,
  6. VUE, PlantFactory, PlantCatalog Exporter and all PlantFactory import plugins can now share the same PlantCatalog collection location,
  7. And a lot more

(1) Export and Integration Plugins are only available in Professional and Enterprise solutions

PlantCatalog Collection update

Alongside the R5 release, the company added a new batch of 15 HD and LD – botanically accurate – vegetation species to its PlantCatalog offering, including:

  1. Coniferous: Picea engelmannii, Picea pungens, Picea pungens ‘Koster’, Picea pungens ‘Glauca Globosa’, Picea abies ‘Maxwellii’, Picea abies ‘Nidiformis’, Picea mariana, Picea mariana ‘Ericoides’
  2. Perennials: Vinca minor, Chamerion angustifolium, Blechnum spicant, Asplenium scolopendrium, Thuidium tamariscinum, Polytrichum commune \
  3. Grass: Phalaris arundinacea

Released in February 2020, the PlantCatalog collection is available either as a standalone package, or complimentary in the company’s Enterprise solutions, or is available as an add-on for Creator and Professional solutions.

SCIA, together with our partners in the Nemetschek Group, we understand that collaboration between all disciplines, including architects, modellers, structural engineers, draughtsmen and others is at the heart of delivering a safe and sustainable design. Therefore, we are constantly looking for ways to improve the engineering workflow and to make BIM a workable reality for all, including structural engineers.

Hilde Sevens, Chief Executive Officer, SCIA, says: “BIM is becoming a more important process for the engineering world. SCIA has always been a front runner in BIM and today with the SCIA AutoConverter we are taking the next big step. We are very proud to be the first to deliver an OpenBIM solution for structural engineers. Get ready for a change, because the engineers will now be able to get fully integrated into the BIM workflow and save tremendous time, free from product dependency.”

Structural engineershave been standing on the side from the practical BIM workflow. They often have to recreate the models, loosing hours and days on tedious, repetitive tasks. They have to handle changes in the structural model, often with difficulty, frustration and risk of incomplete data, whilst their efforts are better spent elsewhere. Doing what they love most – calculate and analyse.

SCIA AutoConverter is a fast, accurate and reliable tool which enables structural engineers to convert structural models from any 3D structural software to create high quality and accurate analysis models offering:

BETTER BIM – Bringing engineers fully into BIM
Structural engineers and modellers are brought together to collaborate effectively in an easy-to-use OpenBIM workflow. A Cloud based application allows engineers to quickly convert 3D structural models from any CAD software to high quality analysis models.

LEDAS Updates on Business Through COVID-19

0

NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia, Jun 22, 2020 – LEDAS, a global provider of software research and development services for the engineering market, released an update on its business in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the end of March and during April, a few LEDAS customers were forced to reduce costs by suspending or decreasing their projects with us. The decrease was caused by the general global decline, which affected CAD and manufacturing industries everywhere. Personalized digital medicine, a rather new but important sector for LEDAS, also declined, as healthcare changed its focus to fighting the coronavirus, and so other medical treatments were partly suspended.

The decline reversed during May and into the beginning of June from two sources of growth. Some projects returned to their previous levels of execution, and new customers began projects with us. In the area of digital dentistry, for example, one project essentially halted in March but then resumed in May, because dentistry took a big dip during the peak spread of COVID-19 in Europe and North America. Talking of new projects, in May we began a new project in specialized 3D modeling.

Business Through COVID-19

One reason the impact of coronavirus was rather small on our business is due to our involvement in long-term projects. These projects have long roadmaps, with sales typically lasting years into the future. When you develop a 3D kernel, a constraint solver, or a complex algorithmic engine for polygonal meshes (all in development by our team now), you plan for decades, not for months or even years.

The spread of coronavirus in Russia is yet not in stable decline, but our Novosibirsk region fortunately was not severely affected. Both the infection rate and the lethal rate are considerably less than in the Moscow region and most western countries.

In any case, LEDAS employees began working from home in March. This was due to an internal management decision before the start of the official lockdown by the government. We will continue to work remotely, as our work processes have been adjusted to this new environment.

We consider the pandemic to be the highest level of global threat, and we address it seriously at both the corporate and personal levels.

MSC Launches MSCOne Extended Edition

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, USA, Jun 22, 2020 – MSC Software Corporation (MSC), a global leader in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation software and services and part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, has extended its advanced simulation offering by providing its customers access to software from technology partners through its MSCOne product access platform.

MSCOne orchestrates flexible token licensing to provide users access to any CAE software they need through the product development lifecycle – from materials R&D and engineering to virtual manufacturing and product testing. This offers engineering leaders the agility to provide immediate access to simulation tools when and where the software is needed and allows organisations to maximize their return on investment, no matter their CAE budget.

Launched today, MSCOneXT (MSCOne Extended Edition) will enhance MSCOne with industry-leading technology partners. MSCOne users will be able to try new products that extend and complement the capabilities of their MSC tools using tokens. Engineering projects will be able to take simulation one step further with access to software that enhances their workflows, but without the complexity, risk, or cost of managing agreements with multiple CAE suppliers.

SmartUQ has joined the MSCOneXT Program to help customers solve their difficult analytics problems while reducing costs and saving thousands of hours of work. “With SmartUQ’s integrations with MSC products, customers now have access to a powerful predictive analytics and uncertainty quantification (UQ) software tool that incorporates real world variability and probabilistic behavior into engineering and systems analyses,” shares Dr. Peter Chien, CEO and Chief Scientist of SmartUQ. “Model calibration and validation, Digital Twins, and Manufacturing Analytics are just a few of the advanced applications SmartUQ adds to the MSC solution set.”

John Janevic, Chief Operating Officer of MSC Software, explained: “Companies in every industry are turning to simulation to improve cost, quality, and innovation from R&D through to manufacturing and testing. By extending MSCOne to our technology partners, we are offering our customers a smarter way to access tools that enhance our offering to help them achieve greater innovation and productivity.”

“Manufacturers have more reasons to become agile than ever before and CAE underpins many decisions. Through MSCOne, customers can now access our extensive simulation portfolio and e-learning wherever and whenever it is needed, so they can respond to their engineering and commercial priorities and adapt to new working practices.”

MSCOne customers can easily access additional simulation tools that their company may not be able to justify with a separate license purchase. For example, a design team that uses MSC Apex could also use Simufact Additive to validate a new part design for additive manufacturing. This flexibility also allows an organisation to allocate resources by distributing tokens across teams and regions, or to use on-premise computing interchangeably with cloud HPC centres.

From today, MSC has also extended access to its extensive CAE e-learning through tokens. This enables any MSCOne user to develop new skills and certifications for any discipline, physics, or product group with structured on-demand courses and step-by-step workshops using the tools available through the platform.

New MSC products, including MSC Apex Generative Design and CAEfatigue have also been made available for the first time through MSCOne. Users can create, test, and perfect every aspect of product development in simulation, from material design to structures, acoustics and fluid dynamics to manufacturing process design and fatigue analysis. The MSCOne portfolio includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Structures: MSC NastranMSC ApexPatranMarc, and Dytran
  2. Multibody Dynamics and Systems: Adams and Easy5
  3. Acoustics and Fluids: ActranscFLOW, and scSTREAM
  4. Durability and Fatigue: CAEfatigue
  5. Materials: Digimat and MaterialCenter
  6. Generative Design: MSC Apex Generative Design
  7. Metal Manufacturing: Simufact and FormingSuite
  8. Simulation Data Management: SimManager

MSCOneXT supports the entire CAE ecosystem – from supplier to user – by providing an easy way for engineering and design professionals to try new products, and for partners to gain exposure to a new customer base. New partners and tools are constantly being added, and prospective partners are invited to join the programme.

For smaller organisations, the MSCOneSE (MSCOne StartEditon) provides a cost-effective and flexible option to access MSC’s core products and e-Learning to help teams get started in advancing their product development proceses to include CAE.
