ModuleWorks 2021.04 Released

0

AACHEN, Germany, Apr 13, 2021 – ModuleWorks announces the release of its 2021.04 CAD/CAM software components. This is the first major release of 2021 and is available now for download from the ModuleWorks website.

The ModuleWorks 2021.04 release contains new and enhanced features across the entire product range. The most important new developments are described below.

Deburring with the tool cone and cylinder

m1

Users can now define a fixed contact point on the tool that enables the cone and cylinder to be used for deburring. This makes deburring an attractive option for chamfering because the cone and cylinder leave no imprint of the tool’s profile. To ensure a uniform chamfer, the tool is not tilted. Instead, to avoid collisions, the toolpath is automatically trimmed in the affected areas.

Sharp corners for enhanced prismatic shapes

m2

The new 2D roughing algorithms prevent corner roll. This preserves sharp corners and providers greater control over the toolpath when machining prismatic shapes.

Corner feed rate reduction

m3

The ModuleWorks toolpath algorithms offer lower feed rates for machining corners. Decelerating the tool when machining sharp corners enhances surface quality and helps low-end CNCs to handle high-performance toolpaths.

Approximate point of collision

m4

The Collision Checker algorithm now returns the approximate point of contact between two objects. This enables OEMs to offer an enhanced user experience in their simulations, for example by drawing a sphere or other shape to graphically indicate the approximate area of the collision.

Smart Measure for Machine Builder

m5

The ModuleWorks Machine Builder now supports the Smart Measure module for measuring distances between any on-screen geometry. Smart Measure automatically recognizes different geometric features and their inherent dimensions, making it easier to create machine models.

For further details about the ModuleWorks 2021.04 release, see the latest ModuleWorks YouTube videos: What’s New in ModuleWorks 2021.04.

CGTech Introduces 3DLive GDML Interface for VERICUT

0

IRVINE, CA, USA, Apr 12, 2021 – CGTech has announced that its VERICUT software can now read in Geometry Description Markup Language (GDML) files with a new 3DLive Interface. GDML is an application independent geometry description format based on XML.

3D_Live-HAAS_UMC750-transl_window

3DLive is available in MachiningCloud for products that require kinematics such as Machine Tools and Workholding devices. MachiningCloud has traditionally been known for the ability to provide 3D models of cutting tools for use in VERICUT and other related CAD/CAM and simulation software. DMG MORI, HAAS Automation, Mazak, Kennametal and KURT Workholding are among the first to supply GDML machine tool, driven turret units and fixture models to MachiningCloud.

VERICUT is the first software of its kind to support the import of 3DLive files for use in verifying, simulating and optimizing NC programs. This enhancement provides VERICUT users the ability to read in 3DLive data for CNC machines, workholding fixtures and cutting tool holders for use in simulations. This eliminates having to measure and model the components by traditional means or request 3D models from the machine tool builder.

“What has traditionally been a challenging and time-consuming procedure to obtain machine specific information and manually build digital twin machines, can now be done quickly and easily in VERICUT using the new 3DLive interface to read information-rich geometry data,” says Gene Granata, VERICUT Product Manager.

The 3DLive catalog in MachiningCloud currently contains over 8,700 products. 3DLive files contain kinematics, travel limits, minimum and maximum feed rates, initial machine location and 3D geometry colors in a single file format. This data can be read into VERICUT in a matter of seconds. 3DLive fixtures can be utilized to exactly represent the workholding setup in a VERICUT simulation. These fixture models sometimes contain axis movement (I.e. vise models that open/close). Additionally, 3DLive tool assembly holders can be read into VERICUT’s Tool Manager.

One of the challenges facing many advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is the robustness of the system to dependably test and recognize potentially dangerous edge case scenarios. To manage these anomalies, AVs require lidar as a redundant detection technology that effectively locates and tracks objects across an incredibly wide range of operational situations. However, to be validated as reliable, lidar sensors must perform countless miles of exhaustive physical testing, which radically increases the development cost of the system.

Velodyne is collaborating with Ansys to integrate an encrypted ‘black box’ physics-based lidar sensor model into Ansys VRXPERIENCE, a next-gen, real-time interactive driving simulator that models, evaluates and validates lidar designs within a highly realistic virtual environment. This end-to-end capability empowers engineers to rapidly model countless edge case driving scenarios across millions of miles and substantially reduce physical tests. As OEMs integrate Velodyne’s lidar into their ADAS portfolio, VRXPERIENCE will reduce development costs by enhancing lidar placement within AVs and validating AV performance.

“Ansys VRXPERIENCE supports faster development and deployment of ADAS solutions using Velodyne’s lidar by providing a fully immersive environment to test and improve hazard identification capabilities,” said Anand Gopalan, CEO at Velodyne Lidar. “Velodyne’s focus on safety aligns with Ansys strengths in enabling informed design decisions. NUMECA Releases FINE/Agile, FINE/Turbo, FINE/Design3D v16.1 for CFD

0

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Apr 12, 2021 – NUMECA is delighted to announce the official release of FINE/Turbo, FINE/Design3D and FINE/Agile version 16.1. FINE/Turbo is a flow integrated environment for rotating and non-rotating flow analysis in external and internal turbomachinery applications. FINE/Design3D is an integrated environment for the design and optimization of turbomachinery channels and blades, bringing together the best-in-class preliminary turbomachinery design tools and the fastest and most accurate CFD suite as recognized by the worldwide turbomachinery community.

FINE/Turbo – Limitless NonLinear Harmonic method with the rank-N

The NonLinear Harmonic method is a unique feature of FINE™ that has quickly become a staple among turbomachinery design engineers. It provides accurate modeling of periodic unsteady disturbances throughout a turbomachine – information typical of URANS simulations, but several orders of magnitude faster.

1734Temperature steaks propagation from the inlet to the outlet in a double shaft two-stage turbine

Initially designed for flow interactions across a single Rotor/Stator interface, this approach has proven to be invaluable for the analysis of any sort of rotating machinery, from volute pumps to multi-stage turbines. It has been successfully extended to clocking effects, rotor-rotor effects, inlet distortions, Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) and more…

With rank-N, the NLH method allows simulating the effect of periodic disturbances across N rotor/stator interfaces, giving the designer complete freedom and flexibility on what, where, and how a flow perturbation is simulated.

In the example below, a periodic hot streak coming from a combustion chamber is modeled in the entire two-stage turbine, with a direct effect on the global performances and on the work extracted from the fluid.

AutoGrid5 – a new approach for impellers with blunt blades

Most impellers are built using a traditional subtraction manufacturing process: a milling machine uses a cutting tool to form the blade surface in one or more passes. This technique allows for high flexibility and quality of the finished part, but each blade has to be defined by a relatively large fillet radius and a trimmed profile.

1735

The newest mesh topology in AutoGrid5 accurately replicates the fillet’s and blade’s actual geometry, without sacrificing mesh quality thanks to the so-called “butterfly” topology. The trailing edge of the impeller is connected to the next block by a non-matching connection to prevent distortion of cells downstream of the trailing edge.

FINE/Agile – Latest models and tools for the most effective design

FINE/Agile 16.1 includes the latest release from Concepts NREC (version 8.9), with numerous improvements and fixes for a better preliminary and detailed design: from new models for choke prediction in difusors in COMPAL, to the ability to design and analyze mixed-flow turbines in RITAL.

The link between the AxCent ad FINE/Turbo is stronger than ever with the added capabilities to design and analyze secondary flow passages.

New FikusSt 20 – CAD/CAM Specially Developed for the Workshop

0

Metalcam launches the new version of FikusSt, the CAD/CAM software specially developed for the workshop, which offers the industry all the functionalities, speed and agility to access new business possibilities and reach new productivity levels.

More agile and customizable

FikusSt 20 is a step forward in productivity compared to the previous version, with significant improvements in calculation algorithms, workflow organization, automation or rationalization of the steps required to execute design and manufacturing tasks. Fikus now takes 10% less time to open files.

It is now possible to insert several files into any Fikus function, simply by dragging and dropping them with the “shift” button, so it is possible to work with several geometries simultaneously. The way to exit functions has also been improved; in addition to the cancel button, there are now buttons on the bottom or top bar, especially useful with touch screens.

Another aspect that has been improved is the customization capacity to easily adapt it to the user’s preferences, with a more efficient system for managing preferences in color combination or the inclusion of the option “dark mode”.

Faster and more complete CAD

In this new version, an important part of the innovations affect CAD, with new functionalities and a host of new features aimed at speeding up the process of designing, importing or repairing geometries, for which new CAD functions and new tools for geometry fixing have been added.

Tools that speed up the CAD process

Key combination commands have been enabled for quick creation of basic surfaces, as well as defaults, which speed up the creation of the most common surfaces. An “exit” button has also been added to all CAD functions that do not involve a dialog box or a new way of selecting geometries to copy, move or rotate.

Another important new feature is the new option to facilitate the creation of slides or extractors by applying an inclination angle to the cylinders defined for ejectors in the Y and Z axis, or the function that allows the center of a closed geometry to be displayed, which helps to reduce the time required for CAD processes.

Improvements to fix geometries

The functions for fixing geometries, which are very necessary in imported CAD elements, have been rebuilt to make them more intuitive and efficient, grouping the functions by families of problems, such as repairing duplicated geometries, repairing discontinuous geometries, repairing overlapping geometries, repairing loops and information. Also noteworthy is the improvement in the curve simplification function which, if in the previous version reached 53%, in FikusSt 20 curve simplification reaches 96%.

Another notable improvement is the Cutting Plane option, which allows the creation of a new Layer/Level according to the position of the Cutting Plane and the possibility of creating a new automatic layer with Z level.

Streamlined management of CAM functions

The improvements introduced in the CAM section are aimed at a more agile and faster workflow, for which the parameter and path forms have been reorganized, with a new distribution of elements and buttons and the inclusion of confirmation and cancellation buttons..

Even more efficient and complete wire EDM

In wire EDM technology, improvements have been introduced in important elements, such as the inclusion of EDM processes on rotating axes, inclined threaded holes, filters by diameter and the possibility of grouping holes by both diameter and height in Automatic Element Recognition. Process control options and new help files have also been improved.

In this version all options to be applied in the Corner parameters for the Bisector corners have been implemented. It is also available the control of the default position of the upper and lower nozzles of the geometry from the preferences settings.

With the new version, FikusSt has introduced multiple enhancements to the wizards to improve their functionalities and productivity, such as the new functionality to activate and deactivate the cuts in the cutting sequence within the wizard.

Faster milling with new 2D and 3D functions

In the FikusSt CAM for milling cutters, the path calculation has been improved to offer more efficient spindle paths with fewer jumps. New options have also been enabled in Adaptive Roughing that help to increase speed and productivity. Also noteworthy are the improvements in finishing, the new drill grouping options and the improvements in the workshop report.

In 2D milling, among other improvements, the UCS option has been added in the Feature Recognition for the 3+2 milling cutter, as well as improvements in the drill assistant and in the drill sorting algorithm to avoid excessive machine movements. In 3D milling, some of the most important new features are the optimization of the lowering step in the finishing and re-finishing processes or the new function to limit finishes by angle.

Lathe and Lathe-mill

Particularly interesting new features on the Lathe are the new machining control options in the grooving areas, the improved calculation times, the new workpiece parameter transfer function, or the new chuck changeover configuration possibilities.

Also the combined cycle machining receives important new features such as the new Automatic Feature Recognition in 2D milling, the improvements in B-axis milling that now allows drilling of inclined holes or the new function to avoid the error that some machines give when a movement crosses the origin (0,0).

Fikus online management

With version 20 of FikusSt comes important improvements in FikusCloud, the management system for Fikus solutions in the “cloud” that keeps the software permanently updated and makes it easy to manage updates, licenses, post-processors, databases, backups or configuration data.

Also from FikusCloud, Fikus offers its users information of interest, technical articles and tips to get the most out of Fikus, as well as a FAQS button where you can find answers to frequently asked questions.

Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, connectivity, embedded electronics, and virtual twin technology will contribute to the excellence of these new products and services. This open innovation ecosystem, founded by five leaders in the automotive and technology fields, will welcome new members and develop open collaborations.

A matter of sovereignty

Mobility is changing and offering new opportunities. According to the Boston Consulting Group, the global mobility market will grow by 60% by 2035 to reach 11,000 billion euros. This growth is mainly driven by the emergence of technological disruptions – electric vehicles, new components, new after-sales services and other value-added services – whose share will increase from 5% to 45% of the global mobility market . Major industrial players on other continents, with state support, are already positioning themselves to develop many of these new technologies through enhanced integration strategies. Today, the founding members of the Software République express the urgency for France and Europe to collectively build a sustainable ecosystem that aims to ensure their sovereignty in this field.

Three main areas of cooperation

To jointly develop and market intelligent mobility systems, enabling the implementation of an adapted and agile mobility offer, three main areas of cooperation have been identified:

  1. Intelligent systems to facilitate secure connectivity between the vehicle and its digital and physical environment.
  2. Simulation and data management systems to optimize flows for territories and companies.
  3. Energy ecosystem to simplify the charging experience.

For example, the following topics are being discussed by the Software République partners:

Plug and Charge

The development of new technologies and services to allow an electric car, connected to a compatible charging point, to be automatically recognized, and to perform a charge without any action by the user.

Optimizing mobility flows for territories

To facilitate access to and simulation of mobility information exchanges, instantaneously and openly across cities and regions to enable:

  1. Consumers to always select the best means of mobility according to time, comfort or energy management.
  2. Operators to enrich their services.
  3. Public authorities to simulate and implement mobility scenarios, such as emergency management, events, etc.
  4. Urban planners to better anticipate land use planning.

To foster innovation, the Software République will also seek to create an investment fund to finance the most promising start-ups and an incubator to host start-ups in the field of smart mobility technologies, where they will have access to a collaborative virtual development and experimentation environment, and mentoring through a value network. For the launch of the ecosystem for start-ups and universities, the partners of the Software République plan to organize a data challenge to contribute to the development of the technologies for the mobility of tomorrow: electric, connected and autonomous.

“Far beyond the automotive sector, it is a question of thinking in terms of use – mobility offering a work and leisure environment that is part of a sustainable economy. This experience economy goes hand in hand with an Industry Renaissance worldwide: the new mobility economy will be organised into new, collaborative value networks based on digital platforms. The Software République is thus a multi-industry and multidisciplinary ecosystem that aims to accelerate innovation and grow the driving forces of tomorrow. To achieve this, it will rely on the collaborative virtual environment provided by Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and on virtual twin experiences. It will also benefit from the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab start-up accelerator.” Bernard Charlès, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dassault Systèmes.

“In the new mobility value chain, on-board intelligence systems are the new driving force, where all research and investment are now concentrated. Faced with this technological challenge, we are choosing to play collectively and openly. There will be no centre of gravity, the value of each will be multiplied by others. The combined expertise in cybersecurity, microelectronics, energy and data management will enable us to develop unique, cutting-edge solutions for low-carbon, shared, and responsible mobility, made in Europe.” Luca de Meo, Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Renault.

“STMicroelectronics has joined the Software République to bring its innovative semiconductor products and solutions for electrification and digitalization of vehicles and mobility services. Our know-how is an enabler of the ongoing transformation towards more efficient solutions, in line with the expectation of stakeholders in terms of environmental impact. The partnership at the heart of this project will also help strengthen the links across the entire value chain, a key aspect during this phase of the transformation of this industry.” Jean-Marc Chery, President and Chief Executive Officer, STMicroelectronics.

“The Software République brings a joint and disruptive momentum, essential to the mobility ecosystem. Based on a proven experience in digital security in very demanding markets such as transport, banking, defence or aerospace, Thales will share its expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and connectivity, to strengthen the protection of vehicles, their data and those involved in mobility.” Patrice Caine, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Thales.

As part of its sustainable vocation, the Software République will be based in Guyancourt at the Renault Technocentre in a building called Odyssée, a 12,000 m² space which is modern and eco-responsible. Its interior and exterior structure is 100% wood, with one tonne of CO2 saved per square metre built in comparison to a standard building, and the 1,000 m² roof of the building is covered with photovoltaic panels.
