As EON Reality’s latest academic partner for XR solutions, MITT will receive a rollout of EON-XR for 100 selected users — with a particular emphasis on engineering students. As a career-focused college that utilizes groundbreaking technology to teach effective courses, MITT is a perfect representation of how even a small-scale rollout of EON-XR can help to improve the academic efficiency of hands-on learning.

“Bringing EON-XR to some of the top engineering students in India is massively rewarding for us, as we know that not only are we helping MITT and the surrounding community, but also the future of the global workforce. By training these students in XR as a part of their academic career, EON Reality is helping to guarantee that the next generation of engineers knows how to work, instruct, and create in the latest and greatest immersive technology. We are thrilled to see this partnership working so well.”, Dan Lejerskar, Founder of EON Reality.

For modern-day engineering students, many schools have been attempting to fill the void of physical hands-on training by offering additional digital materials, industrial visits and technical talks by industry professionals, but this proved to be less-than-desirable for MITT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. Looking to connect their academic offerings to real industrial opportunities as much as possible, being able to offer not only EON-XR solutions for their own lessons but also XR certification courses has been a major benefit for the institute.

“EON Reality’s extraordinary team has really performed well in engaging the session and in making my students realize their potential. The principal and administration of the institute are happy about the positive feedback from the students. On behalf of MIT Thandavapura, I take this opportunity to thank the team from EON Reality for collaborating with us.” Mr. Channabasavanna S. NUM Launches Digital Twin Technology for CNC Machine Tools

0

TEUFEN, Switzerland, Sep 21, 2020 –  CNC specialist NUM is pleased to launch the digital twin technology that enables machine tool manufacturers to reduce their time to market dramatically, by using powerful Industry 4.0 simulation techniques.

SimulationsumgebungNUM’s digital twin technology enables machine tool manufacturers to reduce their time to market dramatically.

Originally known as pairing technology, and first used by NASA in the early days of space exploration, digital twin technology is now rapidly gaining industry acceptance as one of the most cost-effective means of accelerating the development of products, processes and services.

For automation products such as machine tools, a digital twin is a virtual model that uses simulation, real-time data acquisition/analysis and machine learning techniques to allow full evaluation of a machine’s dynamic performance before constructing a physical prototype. The same technology can also be employed for customer presentations, virtual commissioning and operator training purposes – and all well before the actual machine itself has even been built.

NUM offers two versions of digital twin technology, to best suit customers’ needs.

Both versions are designed for use with NUM’s powerful, open-architecture Flexium+ CNC platform. One version uses a naked Flexium+ controller and resident virtualisation software running on the system’s industrial PC to simulate the twinned machine automation. The other version uses the actual Flexium+ controller that will eventually be incorporated in the machine, linked via EtherCAT to a standalone PC running specialist high speed hardware simulation software to represent the mechatronics of the twinned machine.

The virtual controller version includes a software development kit for creating the software model of the machine. The model is a standalone PLC program that uses predefined components to simulate individual machine elements, such as sensors, spindles, pneumatic cylinders, etc. It is loaded into the integrated PLC of the Flexium+ controller.

The Flexium NCK in the controller executes the NC programs and simulates the changing position values of the machine’s axes. To help users visualise the process, NUM’s package includes the CODESYS Depictor software tool produced by CODESYS GmbH, which is used to produce 3D visualisations from the IEC 61131-3 code created by the simulation.

The other version of NUM’s digital twin technology package accommodates real-time data acquisition and analysis. It is based on the ISG-Virtuos hardware simulation software produced by Industrielle Steuerungstechnik GmbH (ISG). The Flexium+ controller that is intended to be used in the physical machine is connected via an EtherCAT network to a standard PC, and interacts with the simulation software in real-time. The PC acts as the twinned virtual machine – with all simulated, virtual components behaving like real components in terms of their interfaces, parameters and operating modes – to accurately replicate the structure and dynamic performance of the real machine. The movements of the machine are displayed realistically on the PC, using the supplied 3D simulation software.

LoopTwinPowerful 3D simulation realistically illustrates the dynamic operation of the machine.

NUM’s new digital twin technology provides machine tool manufacturers with a very powerful and cost-effective means of reducing their developments costs and accelerating their time to market. The virtual controller version is especially useful for the early development stage of a project, before the CNC system has been finalised, while the real-time hardware simulation version has the advantage that all sequencing (PLC) and motion control (CNC) programs that are created during development can simply be transferred to the real machine as soon as it becomes available.

TraceParts Celebrates 10th Anniversary of DesignSpark Engineering Community of RS Components

0

SAINT-ROMAIN, France, Sep 21, 2020 – TraceParts is proud to celebrate 10 years providing support to the DesignSpark engineering platform.

DesignSpark-TraceParts

DesignSpark, the go-to design engineering platform created by RS Components, celebrated its 10th anniversary in July 2020.  RS Components is a UK-based high service-level distributor with over 1.5 million customers worldwide.  DesignSpark was created by RS Components to improve engagement with its large engineering customer base, and is a website that provides users with information, software tools and design aids.

Early in the development of the DesignSpark website, RS Components chose TraceParts to provide 3D models to its customers.  By offering 3D models in over 40 CAD formats, TraceParts enabled RS Components to appeal to the broadest audience.

TP-3D-model-library

In addition to traditional catalog services, TraceParts was able to expand its offer further to include a high-level, seamless integration with the RS Components e-commerce platform.  As a result, customers are able to view and download CAD-native 3D models from within the RS website, alongside other technical and commercial information.

RS Components represented a new challenge for TraceParts.  As the very first distributor of electronic components to create a catalog of 3D models, RS Components required additional functionality to represent its products correctly.  TraceParts was able to modify its standard catalog design to include this extra information, including original manufacturer name and part number alongside the RS Components stock code.  This program continues to be keenly supported by RS Components’ suppliers, who understand the benefits of providing 3D CAD models to engineers through their distribution channel.

DSE

The RS Components 3D catalog grew quickly, winning a loyal user base.  Rapidly exceeding 100,000 downloads, the catalog has grown in popularity and has provided over 3.3 million 3D downloads to date.

Following the success of the 3D CAD program, in 2013 RS Components introduced its free-to-use 3D CAD software called DesignSpark Mechanical.  Once again, TraceParts was a key partner in this project, helping to develop 3D models in DesignSpark Mechanical native format (.rsdoc), and making them available across all manufacturer catalogs of www.traceparts.com.

Customisable-shortcuts-measure-tool

Mike Bray, Vice President of DesignSpark at RS Components, says, “TraceParts has been a key partner from the very first days of DesignSpark. The team at TraceParts instantly understood what we were trying to give our customers and provided us with advice and innovative solutions to achieve our marketing goals.”

The DesignSpark platform now boasts more than 990,000 registered users and has contributed enormously to RS Components growth.  As the platform enters its second decade, TraceParts continues to be part of the DesignSpark story.  The RS Components catalog now includes over 135,000 3D models, available in more than 60 native CAD formats.  The latest incarnation of DesignSpark Mechanical, version 5, was released earlier in 2020 and has already been adopted by 11,000 users worldwide.

TraceParts congratulates RS Components for its innovative approach to technical marketing, and is proud to be part of this success.  For more information on RS Components visit their e-commerce website, or their DesignSpark engineering platform.
