CIMdata to Host Free Webinar on ‘Mechanical CAD Maturity’

0

ANN ARBOR, MI, USA, Sep 11, 2020 – CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “CAD Maturity: Identifying Your Strategic and Tactical Ranking.” The webinar will take place on Thursday, 8 October 2020, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) and will last for one hour.

“How do my Mechanical CAD practices compare to best-in-class? Where can I improve?” These are questions often asked by engineers at today’s leading mechanical product design companies—most having worked at only a limited number of companies and lack a broad understanding of what best-in-class is. Few feel confident in even defining the criteria they should measure. In today’s worldwide competitive market, best-in-class practices can dramatically improve a company’s product quality and delivery. This webinar discusses the measurements used by CIMdata to evaluate a company’s CAD maturity. Measures developed over the years from working with numerous product design companies around the world. The webinar will focus on the seven strategic axes that CIMdata considers when determining an organization’s MCAD maturity level. Additionally, the webinar will identify some tactical methods that overlay the strategic levels that can help guide improvements.

Attendees at this webinar will:

  1. Gain an understanding of the seven major axes to measure to determine MCAD maturity.
  2. Learn to categorize the levels of maturity for each strategic axis.
  3. Be able to identify design methods and data repositories that foster improvement.

According to Dr. Ken Versprille, an Executive Consultant at CIMdata, and the host for this webinar, “Kaizen is a term that refers to on-going or continuous improvement. In CAD, what are the progressive steps you can take to improve? CIMdata’s CAD maturity scale can help guide your efforts.”

Dr. Versprille has over 40 years of experience in the application of computer-based solutions for engineering and manufacturing. His research spans geometric design, design collaboration and automation, PLM standards and openness, and the integration of CAD across PLM applications. Dr. Versprille published the first description of NURBS, the mathematical curve-and-surface formulation, now an international standard in CAD and Computer Graphics. In 2005 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The CAD Society.

During the webinar, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.

Hexagon MI Releases PC-DMIS 2020 R2 for 3D Metrology

0

SURREY, UK, Sep 10,  2020 – Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division launched PC-DMIS 2020 R2, the latest edition of the world’s most popular measurement software. PC-DMIS 2020 R2 delivers a range of new features and improvements to enhance the user experience and drive inspection efficiency.

PC-DMISPC-DMIS 2020 R2 brings integration with Hexagon’s cloud-based asset management software, compliance to the latest ASME standards, and a host of other features to improve workflow efficiencies.

A major new enhancement of PC-DMIS 2020 R2 is its full integration with the cloud-based HxGN SFx | Asset Management software. This solution delivers a simple, accurate way to monitor and analyse how key assets are performing via a centralised, secure, user-friendly dashboard, whether assets are on a single site or in multiple factories around the world. As the data is collected and web-hosted, it can be accessed on a browser on any mobile device, enabling operators to monitor asset usage, downtime and event notifications for data-driven, real-time decision-making. The Routine Detail View enables users to drill down into a detailed view of a specific routine, including process information, routine measurement results and routine history. PC-DMIS users with an SMA also receive instant event notifications about specific routines on all assets.

Geometric Tolerance Command is our new “rule-based” GD&T library that supports ASME Y14.5 – 2018, ISO 1101 – 2017 and offers a number of improvements and expanded capabilities over the current XactMeasure library. In 2018, the Y14.5 definition of datum features was revised to provide a mathematical definition for a single datum feature that represents the mechanical datum simulator or “true geometric counterpart” per Y14.5.1 – 2019. This new definition improves correlation between mechanical inspection methods and digital data from coordinate measurement systems and more accurately represents how parts fit and function in their assembled state. PC-DMIS is now one of the first software products to support ASME Y14.5 – 2018 and ISO 1101 – 2017 enabling manufacturers to meet the demands of new design specifications with confidence and efficiency. The software’s new error checking ensures specifications comply to ASME or ISO standards and flag invalid callouts with descriptive warning messages to help identify and fix drawing errors. The new GD&T library also supports model-based definition (MBD) in accordance to current ASME and ISO MBD standards.

PC-DMIS 2020 R2 also introduces more flexible reporting capabilities with 3D PDF. This new feature removes the need for users to print out multiple pages showing parts in different orientations, as the 3D PDF digital file enables quick and simple product analysis and data extraction.

“We are very pleased to release this latest version of our market-leading metrology software PC-DMIS,” says Ken Woodbine, Senior Product Manager – PC-DMIS Collaborative Solutions at Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division. “PC-DMIS 2020 R2 offers a number of features and capabilities that keep it ahead of the competition. We believe we are the first metrology SW to comply with the latest ASME standards and therefore meet the needs of a demanding supply chain. We are also very proud to integrate fully with SFx Asset Management, providing users and management realtime data on their metrology equipment, no matter where they are”.

This is the second of two major PC-DMIS releases scheduled for 2020, with continued service pack updates to ensure maximum reliability of the platform. To ensure our customers can use the latest features, download the latest updates and continue with maintenance updates, we recommend the purchase of a current Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA). The SMA also provides access to ongoing technical support and service.

Availability

PC-DMIS 2020 R2 is available to download immediately from HexagonMI.com or through Universal Updater. More information is available through local Hexagon commercial operations and dealers.

NUM Announces Copyright Possession of NUMROTO in China

0

TEUFEN, Switzerland, Sep 9, 2020 – NUM AG is pleased to announce that it is now officially in possession of the copyright of NUMROTO software in China.

This will make it easier for us and our lawyers to take action against the use and sale of unlicensed versions of NUMROTO worldwide and to hold guilty users and providers accountable accordingly.

csm_Copyright_NUMROTO_v3.8_9b889fe39a

How do you recognize an illegal version of NUMROTO?

If you have a machine that does not have a NUM CNC control and still uses NUMROTO then it is for sure an unlicensed and therefore illegal version of NUMROTO.

If the machine is controlled by a NUM CNC then the following details may indicate an illegal copy of NUMROTO:

  1. Keyfile number (license file number) with the numbers 999 at the end (for example 12002999.nky or 12002999.nk4, where only the last 3 numbers “999” are relevant).
  2. Availability of all options according to the option list displayed with the machine data. Machines rarely need all options and consequently hardly any such configurations have ever been ordered.
  3. A USB hardlock (dongle), where no red LED is visible.
  4. If the machine was produced by a manufacturer who is not listed as an official partner

If you want to have the authenticity of NUMROTO checked, just send us your license file (keyfile) with the extension .nky or .nk4, together with the name of your company.

If you find that you are using an illegal version of NUMROTO, please contact us. We will try to find a solution to the problem together.

Our lawyers and we are convinced that in the coming months we will be able to support the legal users of NUMROTO with appropriate measures.
