DP Technology Adds Artificial Intelligence Features to ESPRIT

0

CAMARILLO, CA, USA, Sep 14, 2020 – DP Technology, the parent company of the ESPRIT CAM system, has added patent-pending artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to the software. This feature is result of four decades of innovation.

AI

Today’s machine tools have extensive capabilities, but without the right software to drive them, it is difficult to realize their full benefits. Many factors determine the best software for a given shop, but perhaps the most important is its compatibility with the shop’s machine tools—the software’s ability to create machine-optimized, edit-free G-code the for the given machines.

Unlike machine tools, which remain relatively static throughout their lives, the right CAM software will be updated frequently as new innovations become available. That’s why it’s so important to partner with a CAM software company with a strong, long-term commitment to the market like ESPRIT. Led by a robust R&D team, the people behind ESPRIT are excited to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow. Making the right CAM choice can keep a shop on the leading edge of innovation for years to come.

The New ESPRIT is powered by a patent-pending AI engine to simplify the programming process for CNC operators and improve machine productivity on the shop floor. The result of nearly four decades of innovation, this exciting product rollout includes the following features:

Machine Swap

There are many different scenarios that might require a new program for a different machine: an inoperable machine, the need to increase production, moving from prototype to production, and more.

This feature uses an AI engine to automatically update your program any time you change the setup or swap the machine. It can also automatically detect setup changes without manual input. Many times, switching between short runs for small lot sizes and multi-part production runs for larger lots seems like it’s more trouble than it’s worth. But the AI machine awareness behind machine swap provides an extra set of highly skilled eyes to reorganize the program, maximizing process concurrency across multiple parts and optimizing the total cycle time—regardless of the machine you’re running.

Automatic Links

Create your cutting cycle and let your AI-driven software create the fastest and safest positioning between tool operations with consideration of the limits of your specific machines. Think of automatic links as your software’s GPS. Just as your app can provide you with the fastest route (even avoiding tolls and freeways if you’d like), the link engine can “see” the best route to connect your machining processes. With automatic links, you can tell your machine what to prioritize and watch it go from there.

Simulation, Analysis, and Verification

These capabilities take the collision avoidance feature we mentioned earlier to a new level, generating a digital twin of the entire machining environment. You’ll be able to view a perfect model of your machine’s kinematics, reviewing the potential for collisions, axes overtravel, acceleration exceptions, and other conflicts before you make a single cut.

Machine Awareness for Automatic Program Generation

This feature allows users to define the process plan for a single workpiece independently of the machine and how the workpiece is set up. For example, select tooling—and the cutting strategy and AI automatically adapts, sequences, and optimizes the list of tasks to be performed before generating the job for the CNC machine.

Stock-Aware Toolpath

The right AI-driven software analyzes the real-time state of your stock, eliminating air cuts and minimizing repositioning. The result? There’s meaning behind each movement, leading to unparalleled efficiency and, often, significantly reduced cycle times.

Synchronization

Multichannel machines are especially useful because they can perform different actions concurrently. But with the wrong software, concurrent actions can set the stage for collision. An AI engine can automatically synchronize and sequence the program for optimal use of the capabilities of a multichannel machine.

Short-Run and Production Programs

Many times, switching between short runs for small lot sizes and multi-part production runs for larger lots seems like more trouble than it’s worth. But with AI machine awareness, you’ll have an extra set of eyes reorganizing the program, maximizing process concurrency across multiple parts and thereby optimizing the total cycle time.

Intelligent Work Coordinates

For tombstone, fixture, and work offset management, a high-quality AI engine can offer automatic selection of work offset and coordinate transformations based on its awareness of the job. The system determines local references for every local machining feature and activates the necessary machine functions including RTCP, tilted plane, and dynamic fixture offset.

Capturing Best Practices

Features such as ESPRIT’s KnowledgeBase™ eliminate the need for manual recall of your shop’s best machining practices. Instead, it stores them in the software itself, allowing any operator to access what they need at any time.

“Our AI engine represents a fundamental change in the way CNC machines are driven,” says Chuck Mathews, Chief Technology Officer for DP Technology. “The new ESPRIT CAM system’s AI machine-aware algorithms provide an exceptional user experience—simplifying programming, increasing tool life, and improving machine performance.

With the right tools, automation in your shop can deliver what Industry 4.0 has long promised—highly efficient manufacturing that doesn’t sacrifice safety for speed.

Rockwell Offers ControlFLASH Plus, FactoryTalk Updater Free Tools to Ease Industrial Firmware, Software Management

0

MILWAUKEE, WI, USA, Sep 14, 2020 – Industrial producers can now more easily track and manage their industrial firmware and software using newly updated, free tools from Rockwell Automation. The ControlFLASH Plus and FactoryTalk Updater tools give producers more centralized visibility and management of all Rockwell Automation firmware and software.

CFPLUS-and-FTUpdater

Producers can struggle to stay on top of what firmware and software versions are used across their plants. This can cause unnecessary downtime if failed assets can’t be restored until a piece of software or firmware is updated. One challenge is a lack of centralized visibility into what versions are used and where.

With the ControlFLASH Plus and FactoryTalk Updater tools, one administrator or multiple team leaders can now see what firmware is used on Rockwell Automation control devices and what software is used on workstations across plants. They can also see if newer firmware or software versions are available, and then update multiple assets at once.

Because it uses a centralized management approach, FactoryTalk Updater allows users to manage workstations that are connected on an internal network but not connected to the internet for security purposes or other reasons.

ControlFLASH Plus allows users to create a firmware-favorite list. This can help them more quickly and completely restore machines following an incident. In addition, it can reduce reliance on tribal knowledge for supporting machines, and it can provide important details about assets and their support requirements for modernization projects.

Both tools are free and can be downloaded from the Rockwell Automation site.

Mumbai-based Ipca Laboratories Selects Dassault’s ONE Lab Industry Solution to Digitize its Manufacturing QC Labs

0

MUMBAI, India, Sep 14, 2020 – Ipca Laboratories has chosen the ‘ONE Lab’ industry solution of Dassault Systèmes to improve overall laboratory operational excellence and support its digitalization journey.

logo

The One Lab industry solution experience offers research, development, analytical and manufacturing QC laboratories a unique opportunity to remove paper processes and better support end-to-end processes. It provides a standard understanding and usage of laboratory equipment, materials and procedure steps as well as a unified role-based user experience for the lab. The deployment will enable Ipca to improve processes that add value to the business, gain on demand availability of historic data for audits, access real-time data to make decisions, ensure compliance and data integrity, and focus on quality.

Pharmaceutical companies look for procedure execution with data and metadata capture with full instrument integration. This creates the need for a data review dashboard that should help them increase process efficiency with flagging compliance issues pertaining to all standard operating procedures. Manual transcription from and into other IT systems is cumbersome, time consuming and error prone. Therefore, a platform for integration and interoperability with IT systems to support their data exchange activities and compliance is essential.

“Dassault Systèmes’ ONE Lab industry solution experience provides a complete electronic solution for digitalization of R&D and manufacturing QC labs in a unified way eliminating data silos,” said Ashok Nayak, CIO, Ipca Laboratories Ltd.

“ONE Lab aids lab analysts with an electronic environment to remove paper process and automate the interaction with methods, instruments, and supplies that scientists and analysts use every day in a compliant and controlled way, stated Nayak.

Science-based organizations need to optimize lab operations by improving efficiency, maximizing quality, complying with regulatory requirements and driving innovation. Contactless manufacturing is evolving to be the new norm and these goals can be achieved by removing paper-based and disconnected systems, which can hinder data and technology transfer between research, development and manufacturing. The ONE Lab industry solution experience, works beyond traditional Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) products available in the market.

“Partnering with Ipca in their digitalization journey is a significant milestone for us in India. We are moving from ‘Things to Life’ and are ready to expand our footprint in the life sciences industry in India,” said Deepak NG, managing director, India, Dassault Systèmes.

“Our ‘ONE Lab’ industry solution experience has helped Ipca Laboratories rely on a single source of truth that enhanced compliance with regulatory guidelines and improved productivity up to 60% with reduced costs,” stated Deepak.

NVIDIA Releases SimNet AI-Driven Multi-Physics Simulation Toolkit v0.2

0

SANTA CLARA, CA, USA, Sep 11, 2020 – NVIDIA announced the release of SimNet v0.2 with new features including support for A100 GPUs and multi-GPU/multi-node, as well as adding a larger set of neural network architectures and a greater solution space addressability. These new features allow a user to advance simulations for more advanced physics like turbulence and work with complex geometries.

SimNet Value

Previously announced in May, NVIDIA SimNet is a Physics Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) toolkit for students and researchers who are either looking to get started with AI-driven physics simulations or are looking to leverage a powerful framework to implement their domain knowledge to solve complex nonlinear physics problems with real-world applications.

SimNet v0.2 highlights

Turbulent simulations with high Reynold number: Simulation of complex geometries is difficult for standard fully connected networks even with some of the previously introduced losses like integral losses and SDF weighting. SimNet v0.2 introduces new networks such as Fourier features and its variants, SiReNs, DGM as well as features like global & local adaptive learning rate annealing, global activation functions, exact continuity or mass balance for flow problems and Halton sequences for low discrepancy point cloud that facilitate the exploration of more complex shapes and physics like turbulence modeling in CFD.

simnet1

Real World Geometries: In addition to SimNet’s geometry library that allowed building objects with primitive shapes, a new SDF library in SimNet v0.2 now enables import of STL geometries from CAD packages to work with complex geometries.

simnet2

Performance: SimNet v0.2 is highly scalable for multi-GPU/multi-Node. In a scalability study using 16 DGX-1 with 128 V100 GPUs, the scalability for points processed per second remained linear with a near constant time per iteration. SimNet is also supported on A100 GPUs now and leverages the TF32 precision. An initial study shows the A100 with TF32 to be faster ~2x compared to FP32 precision and about ~3x compared to V100 without significant difference in accuracy.

Bentley Systems Launches OpenGround Cloud Service to Increase the Value of Geotechnical Data

0

EXTON, PA, Sep 11, 2020 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a leading global provider of comprehensive software and digital twins services for advancing the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure, announced the availability of OpenGround Cloud, a new cloud service that enables geotechnical professionals to access reliable geotechnical data for better engineering decision support and to improve collaboration across the entire supply chain. OpenGround Cloud offers a complete solution for planning, data entry, borehole log production, lab data management, reporting, visualization, and more. The cloud service improves collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams and significantly increases the value of geotechnical data by making it easily accessible to key project stakeholders.

Going digital from ground to cloud with OpenGround Cloud offers advanced digital workflows for improved efficiency.

Geotechnical project team dynamics and the applications and services they require to manage natural resources are changing rapidly. Relevant geotechnical data is typically dispersed across various applications and devices and can be cumbersome to gather and consolidate, complicating the effective and timely use of this data. Now, with OpenGroundrepository Cloud, geotechnical engineers can readily access reliable, high-quality current and historical geotechnical data for the modeling, simulation, and analysis of infrastructure projects’ ground conditions.

OpenGround Cloud 2OpenGround Cloud provides users with a single repository for multiple data sources

Scott Devoe, senior director, geotechnical information management, Bentley Systems, said, “OpenGround Cloud provides a single enterprise repository of multiple data sources for all ground investigation projects—a long-sought improvement for geotechnical and geological professionals. It eliminates the need to retain copies or to exchange data and ensures that everyone in the supply chain has the correct access rights to the most current version. As a result, OpenGround Cloud helps minimize project delays due to encountering unforeseen ground risks during construction.”

Richard O’Brien, principal process engineer with Atkins, said, “From a risk management perspective, we are now able to more easily identify the gaps in data, to highlight risk items and, if required, assist in the planning of targeted ground investigations. From the tender process, when local site data availability is limited, through to detailed design, we are now able to undertake data-driven assessments to aid in our decision-making.”

OpenGround Cloud 3Centralize information in OpenGround Cloud for improved collaboration throughout the entire supply chain.

O’Brien added, “OpenGround Cloud gives us the ability to determine and cross-reference the organization’s geotechnical parameters and correlations with those available from literature sources. Tender design is made more efficient and we can consider a wider range of site properties leading to reductions in geotechnical risk. Ground investigations are planned more effectively taking into consideration multidiscipline and multiproject data leading to reduced costs. And, detailed designs are delivered from a more complete perspective, which leads to greater value for the client.”

Cedric Allenou, ground engineering lead, Lower Thames Crossing, said, “OpenGround Cloud improved the workflow for all members of the team. The various add-ins are faster within the cloud version of the database, which is useful when dealing with large datasets such as CPT data.”

Allenou continued, “In addition, maintaining the link with the database when members of other organizations need to access the data has also improved the workflow due to the servers being cloud-based. As a result, external support teams can more easily solve issues that arise. The process allows rapid responses and minimizes potential downtime on the project.”
