GHENT, Belgium, Mar 3, 2026 – Bricsys, the developer of the BricsCAD design platform and part of Hexagon, is evolving. Following Hexagon’s previously announced potential spin-off of selected software businesses, Bricsys will become part of a new independent enterprise software company: Octave.
As part of this transition, we will start to conduct business as Octave. Although the legal entity Bricsys NV continues to exist, Bricsys as a brand will be retired.
For product naming, Octave will be added, making us Octave BricsCAD. While the name and visual identity will evolve, the product remains the same powerful, trusted CAD platform professionals rely on every day.
What This Means for Customers and Partners
For customers and partners, this transition changes the name, not the experience. BricsCAD continues with the same product roadmap, licensing models, and support channels. Professionals who rely on BricsCAD across DWG-native drafting, modeling, BIM, mechanical, and surveying workflows can expect the same performance and flexibility they depend on today.
The Formation of Octave
If approved and completed, the spin-off will establish Octave as a standalone software company bringing together Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI) division, Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial (SIG) division, ETQ, Projectmates, and Bricsys.
Octave is focused on unleashing intelligence at scale, turning data into decisive action. Organized around four core pillars (Design, Build, Operate, and Protect), Octave delivers connected solutions that simplify complexity across industrial and public-sector environments.
Why This Matters
As part of Octave, BricsCAD becomes a core product within the Design pillar, now backed by an organization committed to deepening long-term investment in CAD innovation across a broader lifecycle portfolio. That connection extends BricsCAD’s impact beyond design, contributing to the intelligence that helps organizations build, operate, and protect their most critical assets. For users, this means a stronger position in the global CAD market without compromising the innovation, familiarity, and cost-efficiency that define BricsCAD as the true CAD alternative.
From Our Leadership
Reflecting on what this transition means for BricsCAD’s future, David Dejaegher, Senior Vice President at Octave, shared: “Becoming Octave is an exciting step forward for Bricsys. It gives us the scale and momentum to accelerate the BricsCAD mission and strengthen our position as the #1 professional CAD alternative. With Octave’s support, we can innovate faster, think bigger, and unlock opportunities that were previously out of reach. This move empowers us to push further, move faster, and deliver more than ever for our customers, users, and partners.”
Looking Ahead
Beginning this week, customers will begin to see the Octave name and branding introduced across digital platforms and communications. Until the spin-off is finalized, Bricsys remains part of Hexagon and continues to operate as usual.
At its core, the mission remains unchanged: to enable companies to deliver projects faster by providing a cost-effective professional CAD platform that is open, smart, and easy to adopt.
