Axtra3D to Launch Three New Concept, Low-Volume Mold Solutions at Formnext

CHARLOTTE, NC, USA, Nov 7, 2024 – Axtra3D sets a new standard in mold-making with its Lumia X1 3D printer, offering an exceptional range of mold solutions. At Formnext in Germany, on Nov 19, Axtra3D will showcase four distinct mold types produced by the Lumia X1’s advanced Hi-Speed SLA technology, each tailored for:

  • Investment casting
  • Low-pressure Molding
  • High-temperature Micro Molding
  • Silicone Molding

This versatility provides users with diverse production capabilities and positions Axtra3D as a leader in both concept and low-volume production molding solutions.

Rajeev Kulkarni, CSO at Axtra3D, indicates, “Axtra3D’s mold solutions provide a faster, more flexible, and cost-effective alternative to traditional metal tooling, reducing lead times and enabling affordable small-batch production. This is achieved via HPS which combines laser precision with DLP for rapid, high-resolution mold production, and TruLayer technologies that boost print layer separation speed, surface finish, and quality. It overcomes all the limitations of conventional metal molds and furthermore, each mold solution is tailored to specific production needs.”

Highlighting Axtra3D’s Expanded Molding Portfolio for Industry Adaptability

Each mold solution is tailored to specific mold-based production process:

Investment Casting Molding – Using Ultracur3D RG 3280 ceramic, these molds are ideal for concept injection molding, delivering a durable, high-temperature-resistant solution for prototyping and limited-run production. High-stiffness ceramic mold inserts can be completed within a single business day, lowering costs to $100-$250 per set and supporting up to 3,000 injection cycles, depending on geometry.

Low-Pressure Molding – Ultracur3D RG 1100 resin enables the creation of low-pressure molds up to 19” (499mm) long that excel in molding highly viscous materials. The molds exhibit structural rigidity and chemical resistance, providing a robust option for automotive and other heavy-duty applications. The molds’ high-heat deflection and chemical resistance enable them to handle polyurethane foams and other viscous materials.

High-Temperature Micro Molding – Leveraging Figure 4 HI TEMP 300-AMB material, these molds withstand temperatures exceeding 300°C, making them perfect for intricate, small-scale parts that demand high precision in automotive, aerospace, and durable goods manufacturing.

Silicone Molding – With Ultracur3D ST 45 Black, the Lumia X1 creates molds optimized for industrial and healthcare-grade silicone parts, balancing high tensile strength with thermal stability to ensure quality and durability over multiple casting cycles. It delivers high-durability molds tailored for repeated silicone casting, maintaining tight dimensional tolerances and smooth finishes.

Rajeev Kulkarni continues, “At Axtra3D, our goal has always been to push the boundaries of what additive manufacturing can achieve, without compromising quality, speed, or material flexibility. We continue to work together with customers to develop solutions tailored to industry-specific requirements. This approach has ensured a strong alignment between Axtra3D’s technology offerings and the needs of industries where precision and performance matter most.”

All mold solutions can be viewed at the Axtra3D booth at Formnext, Germany, Hall 11.1, Booth C39, from Nov 19 to 22.

About Axtra3D

Company

Based in the US and Italy, Axtra3D is a global company specializing in Hi-Speed SLA systems that eliminates tradeoffs between print throughput, accuracy, feature resolution, and surface finish, typically found in traditional SLA or DLP systems.

The flagship Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA system by Axtra3D represents a significant advancement, combining its Hybrid PhotoSynthesis resin polymerization process with TruLayer, a layer separation technology. HPS utilizes both a laser and a DLP to image simultaneously, while TruLayer enables rapid detachment of the active print layer, resulting in a 20X throughput improvement while preserving the accuracy and fidelity of SLA parts.

With a curated material portfolio, Axtra3D has developed over 15 certified solutions for industries such as Industrial, Healthcare, and Dental, serving a global customer base. These solutions range from direct-use ceramic molds to end-use electrical connectors, industrial parts, dental prosthetics, medical devices, jewelry patterns, and more. Axtra3D’s systems are available in North America, the EU, and Japan, and a broad range of customers have already benefitted from its diverse range of applications.

Axtra3D operates with two business models.

Axtra Solutions™: This model provides fully optimized, turnkey 3D printing solutions. Customers receive complete print profiles fine-tuned for maximum performance and reliability, supported by Axtra3D’s Applications team and quality material partners.

Axtra OpenAccess™: This model further builds on Axtra Solutions™ and allows customers the flexibility to experiment with new materials and applications. It supports innovation and adaptability, enabling added flexibility.
