SEOUL, South Korea, Jan 6, 2025 – DN Group Chairman Kim Sang-heon and DN Solutions announced on the 16th that they will donate a total of 5 billion won to Yonsei University to help foster future talent by establishing an advanced manufacturing research space.
With the donation, Yonsei University’s College of Engineering will build the DN Solutions Center (tentative name), named after DN Solutions, the No. 3 global and No. 1 domestic company in machine tools, which will be used as a space for research and education in advanced manufacturing.
DN Group’s donation consists of KRW 3 billion from Chairman Kim Sang-heon’s personal wealth and KRW 2 billion from DN Solutions.
DN Group Chairman Kim Sang-heon and Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-seop signed the agreement at the main building of Yonsei University’s Sinchon Campus in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on December 13.
The DN Solutions Center will be located in Yonsei’s College of Engineering. DN Solutions and Yonsei will provide a space to operate and research advanced machine tools.
The DN Solutions Center will have a ‘maker space’ equipped with the best facilities in Korea. A maker space is a space where users can freely learn and create by configuring various advanced manufacturing equipment and solutions. At the DN Solutions Center, students will be able to experience manufacturing solutions using the latest machine tools, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and other technologies to develop their ideas from design to prototype.
The two parties will also collaborate on future-oriented machine tool and manufacturing solution research based on the DN Solutions Center, and train students as key personnel in advanced manufacturing technology. Supporting undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research in the machine tool field and operating graduate cooperative courses will be promoted.
DN Solutions has been steadily focusing on industry-academia cooperation.
First of all, it is actively fostering excellent human resources in charge of advanced manufacturing solutions in cooperation with major higher education institutions such as Yonsei University.
In 2022, DN Solutions signed a business agreement with Yonsei University and Pusan National University of Technology to revitalize industry-academia cooperation, and donated advanced machine tool products that play a key role in the manufacturing process of aviation, energy, and electric vehicles. A 5-axis vertical machining center (DVF 5000) was donated to Yonsei University, and a state-of-the-art vertical machining center (DNM 5700) and turning center (DNT 2600) were donated to Pusan National University of Technology.
The company has signed industry-academic cooperation agreements with Korea Polytechnic University Changwon Campus and Youngjin College to foster customized talent in smart precision machining, machine design, and advanced manufacturing solutions.
DN Solutions has also participated in regular academic conferences of major societies such as the Korean Society of Precision Engineering and published several papers, sharing its know-how on machine tools and production technology with academia. DN Solutions also invited external experts, such as university professors, to its headquarters to share machine tool technology trends and seek advice on technology strategies.
