EOS Acquires Stake in Austrian 3D Printing Startup Metalpine

KRAILLING, Germany and GRAZ, Austria, Nov 15, 2021 – EOS, a leading supplier for responsible manufacturing solutions based industrial 3D printing technology, has acquired a stake in Metalpine, based in Graz / Austria. The aim is to cooperate more closely in the joint development of innovative and sustainable metal powders. On the one hand, the new atomization technology of the Austrian start-up is used. Coupled with the material, process and system development competence of EOS, the partners are well positioned to offer users of additive manufacturing sustainable and economically efficient powder products in the future, so that customers can grow successfully without wasting valuable resources unnecessarily.

Metalpine’s atomization technology, specially designed for industrial 3D printing, makes it possible to produce new types of powder with optimum efficiency in powder production and in the 3D printing process. With this minority stake participation, which is strategic for both sides, both companies want to contribute to the sustainability of additive manufacturing. This particularly applies with regards to raw material, electricity, and gas consumption in the traditionally energy-intensive part of metal powder production. The founders of Metalpine, a subsidiary of the htm invest group, bring decades of experience in the manufacture of metallic products such as powder to the partnership. The recently opened production center in Graz meets the highest demands in terms of operating efficiency and environmental protection and enables efficient scaling with consistently high production quality.

“The technology and the team at Metalpine excited us from the very first moment. We can now offer our customers even more powerful and sustainable solutions in the interplay between our industrial 3D printing process and the metal powder production used for this purpose.”

“The Metalpine process enables a whole new dimension of flexibility and is consistently geared towards the application field of 3D printing. The systems are particularly compact, can be quickly set up for new materials and are so low in emissions that they can also be operated in metropolitan areas without hesitation. We see a lot of common development potential and look forward to working with a highly motivated and professional team.” Sascha Rudolph, Senior Vice President, EOS Metal Materials at EOS.

“We see the future collaboration with EOS as a confirmation of many years of research in the field of metal powder production for additive manufacturing. The process, which was developed by Dr. Martin Dopler and his team at the research site in Niklasdorf, combines the highest product quality with the lowest resource consumption.” Andreas Rohrseitz, Owner of the htm Invest group.

“The industrialized production process produces uniquely spherical, non-porous and virtually satellite-free metal powder. We are very happy to be able to convert our materials into outstanding components through the joint work with the competent EOS team and to make the future of additive manufacturing more sustainable.” Gerald Pöllmann, CEO of Metalpine.

The common goal of both partners is to offer their customers further application possibilities for additive manufacturing as well as more sustainable powder products. At the same time, this partnership contributes to the corporate purpose of sustainable manufacturing introduced by EOS.
