3D Systems Advances Regenerative Medical Solutions for First-of-its-Kind Peripheral Nerve Repair

ROCK HILL, SC, USA, Jul 2, 2025 – 3D Systems (NYSE: DDD) announced that its 3D bioprinting technologies have enabled FDA approval for the regenerative repair of peripheral nerve damage. For the last several years, 3D Systems has partnered with TISSIUM, a French MedTech company that is a pioneer in the development of biomorphic programmable polymers for tissue reconstruction, to develop a bespoke 3D printing solution for the repair of damaged peripheral nerves. Combining TISSIUM’s expertise and proprietary biomorphic programable polymers with 3D Systems’ ground-breaking regenerative medicine bioprinting technologies has resulted in the successful development of a fully bioabsorbable 3D-printed medical device for nerve repair utilizing a unique photopolymer. This device, called COAPTIUM® CONNECT with TISSIUM Light, is a first-of-its-kind, atraumatic, sutureless solution for the repair of peripheral nerves. Earlier this week, TISSIUM announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted De Novo marketing authorization for this solution. This milestone validates the polymer’s clinical potential and paves the way for its use across a broad spectrum of transformative applications. Its unique polymer characteristics enable the production of high-resolution, elastomeric biodegradable implants that are unique in the industry.

“This is a significant advancement in patient care,” said Scott Turner, vice president, advanced systems, 3D Systems. “It has been tremendously rewarding to work alongside the talented team at TISSIUM to design a complete 3D bioprinted solution that offers the potential for patients to recover from peripheral nerve damage. I truly believe this will redefine treatment paradigms and offer hope to individuals that have suffered from the effects of nerve damage in regaining their quality of life.”

This milestone is yet another proof point of 3D Systems’ nearly decade-long leadership position in bioprinting. In 2017, 3D Systems entered into a joint development program with United Therapeutics Corporation, the goal of which is to establish an unlimited supply of human lungs, requiring no immunosuppression, allowing all patients with end-stage lung disease to receive transplants which will enable them to enjoy long and active lives. 3D Systems has focused primarily on establishing the 3D printing technology to produce scaffolds meeting the extreme precision and resolution requirements for a functional human lung and to do so in a manner that yields the physical, mechanical, and biocompatibility performance to influence cell behavior and reproduction required for extended use in the human body. Its Print to Perfusion™ process enables 3D printing of high-resolution scaffolds, which can be perfused with living cells to create tissues. Through the combination of bioprinting technology, biocompatible 3D printing materials, and a broad range of cell types including patient-derived cells, the Company’s biomedical engineers can construct patient-specific living tissues.

“Over the past several years, we have made phenomenal progress building upon Chuck Hull’s invention of 3D printing, and pushing its capabilities into new frontiers,” said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, president & CEO, 3D Systems. “Whether in our medical device business through the production of patient-specific implants and surgical solutions, or through the work our regenerative medicine team is doing, 3D Systems is making a profound impact not only on how healthcare is delivered, but on the quality of patients’ lives, and continues to solidify what I believe is an unparalleled role we play in advancing medicine with additive manufacturing applications. This latest accomplishment by TISSIUM, enabled by our unique 3D printing technology, is one more example of how 3D Systems is transforming patient care for a better future.”

According to Markets and Markets[1], the global 3D bioprinting market was valued at $1.3 billion in 2024, and is expected to reach $2.4 billion in 2029. Nearly 40 years ago, 3D Systems created the innovation of 3D printing and reimagined the approaches and processes for product development, parts manufacturing, and personalized healthcare through additive manufacturing solutions. The Company’s additive manufacturing solutions are transforming how healthcare is delivered. As a pioneer in personalized healthcare solutions, 3D Systems has worked with surgeons for over a decade to plan more than 150,000 patient-specific cases and additively manufacture more than two million implants and instruments for 100+ CE-marked and FDA-cleared devices from its world-class, FDA-registered, ISO 13485-certified facilities in Littleton, Colorado, and Leuven, Belgium. 3D Systems is leveraging this experience to innovate bioprinting technologies to transform patient care. By enabling the fabrication of living tissues, the Company believes its bioprinting technology will unlock the promise and potential — to develop new therapeutics, and to improve patient lives.

TRUMPF Introduces TruMicro 9010 Ultra-Short Pulse Lasers for Processing Large Surfaces

DITZINGEN and MUNICH, Germany, Jul 1, 2025 – High-tech company TRUMPF has developed the TruMicro 9010, a new ultra-short pulse laser (USP laser) with an output of 1 kilowatt. The very high power output for an USP laser makes it particularly attractive for processing large surfaces. “Unlike many other USP lasers, the TruMicro 9010 is not only suitable for processing small components. The laser’s high power enables our industrial customers to process large surfaces with high productivity. Even in roll-to-roll processes with high productivity requirements, users can cut contours from flat materials with the TruMicro 9010,” says Steffen Rübling, Product Manager at TRUMPF responsible for the new USP laser. The high-tech company is presenting the TruMicro 9010 at the world’s leading trade fair, LASER – World of Photonics, in Munich.

Laser beam splitting makes the TruMicro 9010 highly productive

Users can split the laser beam of the TruMicro 9010 with special optics. This allows hundreds of fine holes to be drilled simultaneously. This is ideal for the manufacturing of filters, for example. “Many applications are only economically viable thanks to the high power of the TruMicro 9010, which is 1 kilowatt,” says Rübling. When the TruMicro 9010 is coupled to a polygon scanner, this rotating scanner distributes the pulses across the workpiece at a speed of up to one kilometer per second. In this configuration, the TruMicro 9010 is particularly well suited for large-area applications. Not only structuring, but also cleaning surfaces is possible at this high speed.

High performance enables numerous industrial applications

The high single pulse energy of 10 millijoules of the TruMicro 9010 enables users in the electronics or steel industries, for example, to cover various industrial applications with just one laser. “This increases productivity, saves costs, and reduces the amount of space required in production,” says Rübling. The TruMicro 9010 can, for example, cut contours, remove material, and apply markings in a single operation. This means that users do not need multiple laser sources or multiple processing stations, but can perform several steps in one location with a single laser source.

Steffen Rübling, TRUMPF (left), and Dr. Dennis Haasler, Fraunhofer ILT, discuss details of the operation of TRUMPF’s 1 kW UKP laser. The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen has already systematically explored the potential of the beam source with 1 kW average power. (Image source: Fraunhofer ILT, Aachen / Ralf Baumgarten)

In addition to material processing, the laser parameters of the TruMicro 9010 are also suitable for future applications such as secondary sources thanks to their high peak intensities.

BAC Selects Siemens Xcelerator to Build Next-Gen Mono Road Legal Supercar

PLANO, TX, USA, Jul 1, 2025 – Siemens Digital Industries Software announced today that Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) will move to the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software and use it to develop the next generation of Mono, its single-seater road legal race car.

BAC was founded in 2011 by Neill and Ian Briggs to fulfill their vision of a road vehicle that offers the most authentic and pure driving experience possible while implementing the very latest racing technology. Developed to be equally at home on the road as it is on the track, BAC’s 570 kg Mono supercar is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter powertrain which develops 311 hp and 313 Nm of torque which translates to a power-to-weight ratio of 546 hp-per-tonne.

When combined with optimal weight distribution and the lightweight structure featuring BAC’s world-leading graphene-infused carbon panels, the result currently allows the Mono to sprint to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds – which the team is looking to dramatically improve for the next-generation vehicle. The need to push the boundaries of what’s achievable in the high-performance automotive industry led BAC’s senior management and design team to reevaluate its core vehicle development technologies. BAC has selected NX X from Siemens’ Designcenter suite of product engineering software for the development of its next generation Mono.

“Anything that helps us be ahead of the game and be ahead of anybody else. The reason we chose Siemens’ Designcenter software to develop the next generation of Mono is because it’s the best – and it gives us the tools we need to take our vision to the next level,” said Ian Briggs, design director and co-founder. “Our vision was to create a car that simply didn’t exist. The fundamental principle of a sports car is choosing excitement over utility, and we took that to the nth degree. Mono is that philosophy made real—a vehicle without compromise, built to prove that being ahead of the game means refusing to compromise on the driving experience.”

Solving the challenge of homologation

One of the key drivers for the move to Designcenter is to solve the challenge serving a global customer base and certifying that a vehicle complies with the regulatory and safety standards set in a particular region or country.

As Briggs explains, “A key challenge for us is homologating the car for the global market. Understanding the specific positional requirements for everything from headlights to driver sight lines is a complex minefield. The great advantage of Designcenter is that it allows us to build that entire regulatory framework directly into our 3D CAD model, giving us new levels of confidence and a greater speed of development.”

Customer experience with Immersive Design

The BAC team are also exploring ways to enhance the customer buying and customization experience with Siemens’ immersive engineering technology – enabling customers to use immersive XR technology to experience their bespoke vehicles – all based on real-world 3D CAD data, presented in high-fidelity realism.

Eliott Marshall, production manager, BAC explains, “The thing that makes BAC truly unique is the bespoke elements. Siemens’ Immersive Engineering technology allows us to present to the customer exactly what they’re ordering. Being able to sit in their seat fitting jig and see all of the personal customisations they want around them, interact with them as if they’re already implemented, is going to get the fire burning within them.”

The award ceremony, which celebrated four award winners in total, took place on Thursday evening in Berlin and recognized the company’s outstanding innovation, commitment to sustainability, and transformative impact on the built environment.

This marks the tenth year that Bain & Company and manager magazin have jointly presented one of Germany’s most prestigious business awards. The four German companies were honored to have made disruptive change a core element of their business strategy. The winners were selected based on a comprehensive analysis and the verdict of a distinguished jury. All recipients share a common thread: they bridge digital and physical worlds while placing sustainability at the heart of their operations.

The award underscores the Nemetschek Group’s leadership in the digital transformation of the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AEC/O) industry, as well as its ongoing contribution to smarter, more efficient planning, construction, and operational processes.

Yves Padrines, CEO of the Nemetschek Group, accepted the award on behalf of the company and commented, “This award is a tremendous recognition of the passion and vision of our global team – and of the trust our customers place in us every day. At Nemetschek, we believe in the power of digital collaboration and innovation to create a better built world. This honor motivates us to continue pushing boundaries—for the benefit of our industry and our planet.”

Walter Sinn, Head of Bain Germany and jury member, emphasized, “With its strategic direction, Nemetschek has positioned itself strongly for growth and is tapping into a key lever of efficiency: software. Its focus on holistic solutions is what truly sets the company apart.”

In addition to the Nemetschek Group, the three other award winners were Trade Republic (Europe’s largest savings platform) for “Customer Experience”, high-tech company TRUMPF for “Product & Service Innovation”, and Planet A Foods, a Munich-based food-tech startup founded in 2021, which received the special “Rising Star” award.
