ITI Releases CADfix Viz CAD to Mesh Convertor for AR, VR, MR Visualization

0

CAMBRIDGE, UK, Mar 16, 2021 – Leading global interoperability solution provider, International Technegroup Incorporated (ITI), is pleased to announce the release of CADfix Viz, a new CAD to mesh conversion solution that maximizes the reuse of 3D digital assets for VR/AR/MR applications.

CADfix Viz is a user-friendly solution built on the proven CADfix model translation, repair, and simplification platform, designed to streamline the process of converting complex CAD models for use in VR/AR/MR visualization systems. Process automation reduces the engineering design labor and costs associated with large CAD model simplification and integration.

Large complex CAD models produce equally large mesh files with high triangle counts that frequently prevent effective data re-use in VR/AR/MR, mobile, and web applications. CADfix Viz generates robust, high-quality mesh with minimal triangles and reduced file size. Mesh can be simplified using a suite of simplification tools, removing unnecessary model features to reduce the triangle count. The conversion and simplification process is fully parameterizable, ensuring that appropriate levels of detail (LOD) are achieved in the resultant mesh. Utilizing the CADfix Viz batch processing capabilities, mesh representations with multiple LOD can be produced quickly with minimal user interaction.

EuSGwNIXAAAIPyRComplex CAD assembly automatically exported to multiple LOD mesh representations

CADfix Viz offers extensive multi-CAD import support for industry neutral formats, such as STEP and JTOpen, plus support for native formats from all mainstream MCAD systems. CADfix Viz exports to a range of common formats used in AR/VR/MR applications, such as FBX, glTF and OBJ. CADfix Viz also exports to flavored FBX files suitable for use in the Unreal and Unity software applications, enabling the seamless transfer of complex assemblies containing multiple LODs.

CAD features such as small bodies, holes, protrusions, and hidden internal features, add complexity and significantly increase mesh sizes. CADfix Viz automatically identifies and removes overly detailed model features to reduce both mesh and file size. Meshes can be further simplified using wrapping tools to produce more rudimentary representations of components. Intelligent mesh decimation tools target complex areas of the model, prioritizing regions of dense mesh where the greatest triangle reduction can be achieved with minimal geometric change.

CADfix Viz is packaged with an intuitive user interface that provides automated model processing supported by interactive tools for additional control. A command-line batch option allows CADfix Viz to be integrated into automatic workflows to further streamline the conversion process. CADfix Viz is available now on the Windows platform and a Linux version is planned.

Andy Chinn, Director of ITI’s CADfix development center, comments, “We are excited to be releasing a new solution for visualization systems that benefits from our years of geometry and meshing expertise. The release of CADfix Viz means that complex 3D mechanical CAD assets can be quickly and automatically converted into optimized lightweight forms for immediate use in VR/AR/MR applications, helping our customers realize vital efficiency and cost savings.”

BETA CAE Systems Releases SPDRM v1.5.0

0

LUCERNE, Switzerland, Mar 16, 2021 – BETA CAE Systems announces the release of SPDRM v1.5.0. SPDRM v1.5.0 is now available, with numerous important enhancements in both the back-end and in the SPDRM client. The most important enhancements and fixes are listed below.

spdrm

Release Highlights

The menu bar in the SPDRM Client is redesigned, offering a more intuitive organization of all available functions per area of focus (e.g. Data, Process, Resources, etc.). The new menu bar supports the grouping of Generic Script Actions, allowing a better organization in cases where several custom actions are defined. Furthermore, this version introduces new customization options for the context menu of data objects when Script Actions are included, as it is now possible to configure the appearance of the context menu and even override built-in functions like Add, Export and Compare by custom-made alternatives.

Vast developments have taken place in the area of Process Management improving the overall user experience and efficiency. Starting with the Process Instance List, a default sorting of all Processes from newest to oldest is activated, allowing quick identification of the most recent tasks. Search of Process Instances is reengineered, with the introduction of a new search engine based on the BETA Query Language (BETA QL) which offers a Basic and an Advanced filtering mode with syntax and principles common across all the applications of the BETA Suite. Moreover, the Process Output Windows are reworked to enable easy focus on the messages communicated through the running processes. Contrary to the approach that was used until now, where a different tab would open for each running Node, in this version the output of all running nodes is collected in a single tab named “Running Process”. To enable the quick identification of the outputs of a particular Node of interest, the complementary tab “Selected Process” is used to show the log of each selected Node or Process and is refreshed each time the Node selection changes. In addition to these two visible by default tabs, the user can select a Node or a Workflow and pin its output to a dedicated tab. Finally, an new enhancement enables logs produced by the No-GUI clients to be visible in the GUI client of the same user.

Continuing in the Process Management area, new possibilities are introduced to facilitate the execution of time consuming and resource demanding tasks on remote resources. The BETA Apps Launcher (BAL), which comes as an evolution of the “host of SPDRM No-GUI clients”, is now able to launch not only SPDRM Client batch sessions but also any application of the BETA Suite that can run in batch mode (e.g. ANSA for CAD files translation and meshing, META for results processing, etc.). BAL is equipped with a queuing mechanism that enables the running of tasks asynchronously, according to resources availability (CPU, RAM). Moreover, an emergency handling mechanism is in place, and gets activated upon resource starvation. A set of new functions in the script API are introduced to handle the execution and monitoring of applications through BAL.

The direct interfacing of all the products of the BETA Suite with SPDRM has always been a unique feature of BETA’s Simulation Data Management offering, as it enables the full exploitation of data management functionality of SPDRM directly through ANSA, META and KOMVOS. Taking this interface a big step forward, SPDRM now provides access also to its Process Management capabilities directly through ANSA, META and KOMVOS. Using a dedicated module in the ANSA/META/KOMVOS Scripting APΙ, it is now possible to connect to SPDRM for Process Management to instantiate, execute and monitor the progress of SPDRM workflows.

This version does not come short of enhancements in the Data Management module. Several important improvements are introduced in the area of data deletion to facilitate efficient handling of deleted data: Restoration of a multi-selection of deleted objects is now possible in a single shot. Furthermore, partially deleted data are automatically switched to permanently deleted, as soon as all their dependencies are deleted.

This version also introduces a new logging mechanism that provides logs for functional monitoring through log analysis platforms (e.g. Kibana). This first release of the functionality enables the monitoring of process instantiation and execution, as well as data object creation, overwriting and spin-up.

Last, the licensing policy of SPDRM Client batch sessions (i.e. NoGUI client) is aligned with that of the ANSA/META batch sessions. From now on, a new license feature named “SPDRM_CLIENT_BATCH” is required to launch SPDRM Client NoGUI sessions. The SPDRM_CLIENT_BATCH license feature has the same “weight” with the existing SPDRM_CLIENT feature, i.e. 10 credits.

For more details about the new software features, enhancements and corrections please, refer to the Release Notes document.

CAMPBELL, CA, USA, Mar 15, 2021 – VELO3D is pleased to announce that Chromalloy, a manufacturing and repair solutions provider for gas turbine engine manufacturers and operators worldwide, recently selected the VELO3D Sapphire system as their additive manufacturing (AM) solution to significantly impact the economics of future Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) projects in Chromalloy’s aviation and energy markets.

Chromalloy is installing the VELO3D Sapphire in its manufacturing and repair services environment. This industrial AM technology is increasingly being adopted by manufacturers as a solution to offset the high costs of low-volume, direct-part replacement for conventionally produced parts when demand and long-term forecasting are uncertain.

“Chromalloy continues to seek innovative alternatives for our customers to extend the life of their engines and reduce their MRO costs,” says John Green, Vice President, Engineering & Technology, Chromalloy. “The VELO3D additive manufacturing equipment provides a unique, practical solution for our proprietary LifeX customer solutions.”

According to Chromalloy’s Jim Whitton, Director, Innovation Strategy, “For Chromalloy, 3D printed parts must provide inherent value because they are 3D printed. Otherwise, the printing itself is just a novelty. VELO3D’s unique build capability and material density create high value by reducing post-processing requirements.”

VELO3D will qualify Chromalloy’s machine for 3D printing nickel-based superalloys, including Hastelloy X, which is known for its strength and durability characteristics in high-temperature environments. VELO3D is renowned for enabling geometric freedom through its patented SupportFree process. The capability to produce practically unlimited geometries eliminates the need to redesign legacy parts in order to produce them with AM. This tremendously reduces the barrier of transitioning legacy parts, produced historically by casting, welding or brazing, to additive manufacturing.

All Sapphire machines come standard with VELO3D ‘s highly automated, user-friendly Flow pre-print software and Assure quality assurance and control system.

“As an industry leader in the aviation MRO space, Chromalloy is an excellent partner for us,” says Benny Buller, VELO3D founder and CEO. “They have the expertise to open up a whole market category of parts. With the flexibility to produce high value, high mix, low-volume parts for aerospace, AM allows the supply chain to be scaled to market- and customer-specific requirements.”

Jim Whitton agrees. “For complex gas turbine combustor components that have limited aftermarket availability or high replacement cost, the Sapphire system will allow Chromalloy to produce hardware on-demand, negating high NPI (new product introduction) tooling costs and lead-times of other methods,” he says.
