ANTARES BLACK-CAD V20 Integrates with ZWCAD 2020

0

GUANGZHOU, China, Jan 17, 2020 – The exciting story unfolds: you can now transform 3D objects into planes on ZWCAD 2020 with BLACK-CAD V20! This specialized add-on is developed by ANTARES, a trusted German software provider and well received by plumbers, shipbuilders, model manufacturers, etc.

Gone was the Cut-and-try Method

As we all know, bodies like elbows, boat frames and canopies are made out of metal sheets, wooden plates or fabric panels. Manufacturers need to cut the raw materials before bending, edging, soldering, welding or gluing the parts. And before the cutting can start, an accurate drawing containing the necessary unfolded and equal-area projection of a 3D surface must be there.

However, bodies, especially the ones with complicated surfaces, such as rotating surfaces, screw surfaces and other free-form surfaces are usually difficult to unfold. Since traditional drawing tools that generate 2D cutting sheets represent a great expenditure of time and materials, precise drawings are vital to a high level of productivity.

The Key to a Competitive Edge

Today, handicraftsmen or manufacturers can no longer afford the processes of trial and error. What is the way out then? The routines of BLACK-CAD that run under CAD platforms can help. With the linear-conform upper and lower edges of the surface to be unfolded, and the position of a welding seam defined in the 3D model, you can easily get the 2D cutting sheets of very complex bodies.

You can also generate connected 3D polylines by joining any linear objects, such as 2D polylines, circular or elliptical arcs and helixes. Moreover, it’s possible to generate the unfolded surface area between two 3D polylines (even with holes or open linework, for example, patterns or letters) as the upper and lower edges for the surfaces to be unrolled, with the crease edges taken into consideration and without showing the bending lines.

You can even control the unrolling accuracy by setting the parameters.

Figure 1. Unfold a 3D tube with BLACK-CAD to see the size of the 2D cutting sheetFigure 1. Unfold a 3D tube with BLACK-CAD to see the size of the 2D cutting sheet

Unlocking the Add-on’s Potential

BLACK-CAD has been serving and satisfying numerous producers from various industries for 3 decades. Church roofs, ships, tents… objects whose surfaces are bent have been designed and produced with the aid of this application.

Figure 2. View the curved surfaces from different angles with BLACK-CADFigure 2. View the curved surfaces from different angles with BLACK-CAD

Searching for CAD platforms where the add-on can better play its role, developers of BLACK-CAD regard ZWCAD as the exact platform they need. Its compatibility was the first point that crossed their mind and the last thing on their mind – all 3D geometries can be imported to ZWCAD and then unfolded. And apart from the intuitive interface and useful features, they thought well of its good performance in 3D construction.

Furthermore, direct and timely support offered by the ZWCAD technical team helped smooth the porting process in the VLISP environment. “We like the direct contact with the ZWCAD team. It is not so anonymous like with other vendors,” appreciated the software engineer, Dr. H-Joachim Schulz.

In brief, if unfolding 3D objects is part of your workflow, this accessible and affordable package is exactly what you need.

AACHEN, Germany, Jan 16, 2020 – ModuleWorks announces the release of its 2019.12 CAD/CAM software components. This is the third major release of 2019 and is available now for download from the ModuleWorks website.

ModuleWorks is at the forefront of multi-axis machining and simulation technology, providing the toolpath and simulation technology that powers many of the leading CAM systems around the world today.

This latest release contains new performance-optimizing cycles for 5-axis and 3-axis machining as well as enhanced visual accuracy and sharper imaging for the Cutting and Adding Material Simulator.

5-Axis Machining

New finishing cycles for multiaxis machining

Two new finishing cycles have been added to the multiaxis machining toolpath generator: one for wall finishing and one for floor finishing.

Both cycles support barrel tools and offer all the process-optimizing features of the original roughing strategy, such as easy part selection, automatic collision checking between the tool and the part and automatic collision-free linking.

3-Axis Machining

Combined cycle for steep and shallow areas

ConstantZ_ParallelCuts

With the HSM toolpath generator, operators can now machine steep and shallow areas in a single cycle. This accelerates CAM programming by eliminating repetitive steps and means that programmers only need to set up a single machining operation.

The cycle consists of constant Z for steep areas and two options for shallows areas, either constant cusp or parallel cuts.

Cutting and Adding Material Simulator

Enhanced visual accuracy for spherical tools

New algorithmic enhancements improve the visual accuracy of the simulation to deliver a sharper and more realistic simulation for spherical tools such as ball mill and bull mill tools. The resulting simulated part now has crisp corners and very smooth curves that accurately reflect the real shape of the tool without any noticeable segmentation or fragmentation.

MathWorks Speeds FPGA, ASIC Verification with UVM Support

0

NATICK, MA, USA, Jan 16, 2020 – MathWorks announced that HDL Verifier provides support for the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) starting with Release 2019b, which is currently available. HDL Verifier enables design verification engineers developing FPGA and ASIC designs to generate UVM components and test benches directly from Simulink models and use them in simulators that support UVM such as those from Synopsys, Cadence, and Mentor.

recent study by Wilson Research Group found that 48% of FPGA design projects and 71% percent of ASIC design projects rely on UVM for design verification. Typically, algorithm developers and system architects develop new algorithmic content in MATLAB and Simulink. Design verification (DV) engineers then use the MATLAB and Simulink models as a reference as they handwrite code for RTL test benches, which can be an extremely time-consuming process. Now with HDL Verifier, DV engineers can automatically generate UVM components such as sequences or scoreboards from system-level models already developed in Simulink. This approach reduces the time verification engineers spend developing test benches for ASIC and FPGA designs used in applications such as wireless communications, embedded vision, and controls.

“Simulink allows for us to reduce time spent on hand-writing production UVM test benches, test sequences and scoreboards by about 50% – leaving more time for us to focus on application for breakthrough innovations,” said Khalid Chishti, ASIC development manager, Allegro MicroSystems. “Our ASICs designed for automotive applications rely on UVM for production verification – MATLAB and Simulink simplify the once tedious task of developing the algorithms for these devices.”

With new features such as generation of UVM components, SystemVerilog assertions, and SystemVerilog DPI components from MATLAB and Simulink, HDL Verifier now offers extended support to design verification teams responsible for production verification of ASICs and FPGAs. Tasked with developing rigorous test benches in HDL simulators by handwriting code in SystemVerilog, these design verification teams can now generate verification components directly from existing MATLAB and Simulink models, and re-use these models to speed creation of production verification environments.

“According to the 2018 Functional Verification Study by Wilson Research and Mentor Graphics, DV engineers spend about one-fifth of their time on ASIC and FPGA projects in test bench development,” said Eric Cigan, principal HDL product marketing manager, MathWorks. “HDL Verifier’s capability to generate UVM and SystemVerilog DPI components from existing MATLAB and Simulink models can boost the productivity of DV engineers and improve collaboration between system architects, hardware designers, and DV engineers.”
