Nikon SLM Launches SLM.Prep for Metal AM Data Preparation

LUBECK, Germany, Dec 12, 2025 – Nikon SLM Solutions has officially released SLM.Prep, a next-generation data preparation software designed to unify and simplify build setup for all Nikon SLM machine types. Developed through a multi-year program and shaped by real user feedback, SLM.Prep introduces a new standard of transparency, accuracy, and control for metal additive manufacturing.

SLM.Prep consolidates advanced data preparation into one powerful tool — eliminating the need for multiple programs and giving users faster workflows, accurate build-time simulations, and full slice-level visibility into how every layer will be printed.

With detailed laser-spot modeling, SLM.Prep provides highly accurate build-time estimations based on Nikon SLM’s proprietary scanner behavior. Users can preview every scan vector on every layer, gaining unprecedented insight into the print process long before the build ever starts.

Invitation

For high-productivity systems like the NXG platform, SLM.Prep delivers significant advantages:

  • Visualization of all laser spots moving simultaneously on any given layer
  • Multiple optic-allocation logics to optimize for speed, quality, or qualification
  • Instant recalculation of build time when parameters or allocation strategies change

This level of fidelity enables faster qualification cycles, deeper process understanding, and a higher degree of confidence when preparing complex multi-laser builds.

SLM.Prep has already been used extensively by early-access customers — and their testimonials highlight its impact:

AMEXCI

“SLM.Prep clearly enhanced our data prep workflow. It is encouraging to see the software’s trajectory and we look forward to further leveraging its full potential.” — Srikanth Purli, Head of Engineering.

GKN Aerospace

“SLM.Prep is a very user-friendly and interactive software, especially when it comes to working with laser sequencing for NXG machines.” — Martin Thordén, VP GKN Aerospace Engines

These testimonials reflect the software’s ability to streamline workflows, support qualification, and unlock the full throughput of Nikon SLM multi-laser platforms.

Executive Perspective

“SLM.Prep brings a new level of transparency and confidence to additive manufacturing,” said Simon Merkt-Schippers, Executive Vice President Product Management, Nikon SLM Solutions. “By giving customers a clear, visual understanding of how each laser interacts during production, we’re helping them move faster from design to qualification — unlocking real productivity gains and reducing time to part.”

Now Available Worldwide

SLM.Prep is immediately available to all Nikon SLM Solutions machine owners and will be continuously expanded with new functionalities driven by ongoing customer feedback.
