PORTSMOUTH, VA, USA, Oct 28, 2026 — Registration is now open for accelerated, hands-on industrial maintenance training at Phillips Workforce, a new workforce development division of Phillips Corporation in Portsmouth.
Located at 820 Port Centre Parkway, Phillips Workforce provides accelerated, employer-aligned training designed to help industrial and manufacturing employers develop the skills their employees need to maintain equipment, troubleshoot systems and support modern manufacturing operations.
The training center offers a variety of single-week programs covering critical industrial maintenance disciplines, including preventative maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), advanced electrical systems, advanced mechanical systems, electrical controls, fluid power and robotics.
The accelerated format allows employees to focus on specific technical skills in weeks rather than years, with hands-on instruction using approximately 80% production-grade equipment.
“Employers need skilled people who can step into the workplace and understand the equipment and systems they’re working with. Phillips Workforce was created to give employers a practical way to build those skills through focused, hands-on training.”— Brad Adams, President, Phillips Corporation’s U.S. Education Division
The programs are designed for employers in manufacturing, shipbuilding and other industrial environments throughout Hampton Roads. Companies can select individual courses based on the needs of their workforce rather than committing employees to a lengthy training program.
“Training doesn’t have to take employees away from the workplace for months at a time. Our approach allows companies to target specific skills and get employees back to the job with new knowledge they can put to work.”— Brad Adams, President, Phillips Corporation’s U.S. Education Division
Training Support May Be Available for Eligible Employers
Phillips Workforce also offers support for employers interested in hybrid apprenticeship programs, including related technical curriculum and instruction, RTI sponsorship, DOL compliance, documentation, and grant support.
“For employers, developing the skills of their current workforce can be just as important as finding new talent. Phillips Workforce gives local companies a hands-on option for helping their employees develop the technical skills they need to move forward.”— Shawn Avery, CEO, Hampton Roads Workforce Council
