Audubon Tool Invests in SLM 280 AM System to Produce Tooling Inserts Onsite

LUBECK, Germany, May 12, 2023 – Audubon Tool, a leading provider of high-performance tooling solutions, has purchased an SLM 280 from SLM Solutions to create 3D printed inserts for die-cast tooling. SLM technology does not only extend tool life, but it also helps to reduce part failures and reject rates. The new SLM machine thus ensures cost savings and at the same time increases the quality of the tools, taking production to a new level that cannot be achieved with conventional manufacturing solutions.

As a large tool and die supplier for the automotive industry, Audubon Tool previously sourced conformal cooled inserts from outside the United States. With the help of their new SLM machine the company can now produce inserts in-house, making them a local source for additive manufacturing of conformal cooled inserts for tool and die companies throughout the Midwest of the US.

“Audubon Tool is proud to offer state-of-the-art tooling solutions to our customers to improve the outcome in challenging casting scenarios,” says David Weiss, Design Engineering Director of Audubon Tool. “Additive manufacturing with SLM Solutions allows us to create conformal cooled inserts to overcome these technical challenges. We decided to work with SLM Solutions because of their leading-edge technology and long history of quality, well-built machines.”

SLM Solutions technology improves the design and the effectiveness of the tooling inserts by enabling the incorporation of intricate internal cooling channels. Such designs are only possible by using additive manufacturing and greatly improve insert performance as compared to those made with conventional methods. This ability to produce complex structures has revolutionized the tooling industry and enables previously impossible design freedom.

“SLM Solutions is proud to successfully support Audubon Tool, and all our customers’ missions, with our innovative and industry-leading technology. SLM Solutions shares Audubon Tools passion for bringing cutting-edge solutions to our customers. They understand the critical importance of being an innovator and utilizing the very best technology to ensure the highest level of quality and efficiency of their production”, highlights Rich Cline, Sales Director Southeast US of SLM Solutions.

With its investment in SLM technology, Audubon Tool is poised to lead the way in providing cutting-edge tooling solutions to its customers. The company’s commitment to delivering the highest quality products is evident in this investment and its goal to help customers overcome the technical challenges in casting scenarios.
