Hexagon MI Releases PC-DMIS 2020 R1

0

SURREY, UK, Feb 28, 2020 – Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division launched PC-DMIS 2020 R1, the latest edition of the world’s most popular measurement software. PC-DMIS 2020 R1 brings new features, capabilities and an enhanced user experience to portable measuring arm operators and those who scan and create point cloud data.

PC-DMIS-2020-R1PC-DMIS 2020 R1 delivers new features, capabilities and greater usability for portable measuring arm users

The new feature ‘Guided Portable Execution’ streamlines the creation and execution of contact Auto Features. This takes the guesswork out of measurement manual measurement paths by guiding the user through the measurements, showing where measurement points need to be taken in red and points already captured in green, whilst automatically scaling and rotating to the active Auto Feature. For users of scanning devices, they can now show the point cloud data as a mesh display, selecting a pre-defined profile with one click from the portable scanning widget toolbar. The new point cloud noise reduction filter automatically removes any points too far away from the global cloud. The user can adjust the sensitivity of the filter, offering the right level for each task.

In addition to these new features aimed at enhancing the use of measuring arms, 2020 R1 offers improvements to existing features. The Protect feature, introduced in PC-DMIS 2019 R1 to help PC-DMIS users version control their measurement routines and add levels of traceability to their processes, has been enhanced with the addition of a new ‘Supervisor role’. Ideal for companies that follow a multi-level approval process, this feature enables restrictions on who has the authority to certify or reject measurement routine changes submitted by the programmer. Home Page was introduced in PC-DMIS 2019 R2, offering a new and more intuitive way for the user to manage and access their routines, with useful links to resources, information and forums on the PC-DMIS home screen. In 2020 R1 this has been improved by the addition of example measurement routines and preloaded best practice templates, as well as the capability for users to create and share their own templates.

“We are very pleased to release this latest version of our market-leading metrology software PC-DMIS,” says Ken Woodbine, Senior Product Manager – PC-DMIS Collaborative Solutions at Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division. “PC-DMIS 2020 R1 offers a number of features designed for our customers that use portable arms and scanners as well as building on some of our recent, innovative features. The improvements in this version continue to illustrate PC-DMIS’s extensive capabilities across the different types of metrology equipment and measurement technologies.”

This is the first of two major PC-DMIS releases scheduled for 2020, with continued service pack updates to ensure maximum reliability of the platform. PC-DMIS 2020 R1 is available to download immediately from HexagonMI.com or through Universal Updater. More information is available through local Hexagon commercial operations and dealers.

Autodesk, STRABAG Sign Letter of Intent to Strengthen Cooperation

0

MUNICH, Germany, Feb 26, 2020 – Software company Autodesk and European construction service provider STRABAG signed a letter of intent in Munich, aiming to cooperate even more closely in the digitization of the construction industry in the future. The agreement strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two companies, and focuses on the common development of BIM applications tailored to the requirements of the European market. In doing so, the diverse experience that STRABAG is gathering on construction sites throughout Europe could enable a more practice-oriented development of potential software solutions. These will be tested and optimized within the framework of existing construction projects. A special focus will be the integration of corresponding applications for construction and logistics processes – Autodesk and STRABAG expect high and yet often unused potential of BIM.

Autodesk_Strabag

“For years, we have been valuing the great cooperation with Autodesk when it comes to definition and development of BIM software,” said Klemens Haselsteiner, new member of the STRABAG SE Management Board for Digitalisation. “As leading construction service provider, we aim to drive digitization of the construction industry in Europe. The advancement of Building Information Modelling – with a focus on applications for construction and logistics processes – is our goal.”

As a first step, the companies are conducting a series of joint workshops in which experts from both companies deal with important key issues. Currently, the first series on the topic of infrastructure, a focus area of STRABAG, is already underway. The expansion and maintenance of the transport infrastructure is one of the largest future projects, especially in Germany, leading to various opportunities for the construction industry. Approximately 2,500 bridges need to be renovated or adapted for higher traffic volumes.  At the same time, Building Information Modeling is required as a planning basis for public-sector tenders from 2020.

Andrew Anagnost, CEO, Autodesk noted, “Europe and especially the German-speaking region are an important market for us. Our aim is to better address the market requirements of the future and are pleased to have a company like STRABAG with the right expertise and vision to lead the way with us.”

In addition to the conventional implementation of construction projects with BIM, the companies will deal with pre-construction – meaning modular and partial design outside the construction site – in the future. The practical experience gained by STRABAG employees on the construction site coupled with Autodesk’s expertise in design and production from the MFG sector complement each other in the pre-construction building phase.

NUM Launches Form Compensation Option for NUMROTO

0

TEUFEN, Switzerland, Feb 26, 2020 – NUM has launched a powerful form compensation option for its renowned NUMROTO tool grinding software. The new option enables tool manufacturers to ‘close the loop’ between CNC tool grinding and measurement, in order to further increase process accuracy and consistency. The system inherently compensates for process variables such as temperature fluctuations and grinding wheel wear, and is likely to prove especially popular with manufacturers of the latest specialist precision tools, which demand unprecedentedly tight production standards.

NUM’s renowned NUMROTO tool grinding software now features fully integrated form compensation facilities.

Operators seeking to maximise the accuracy of tools produced on CNC grinding machines generally use a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to obtain probed measurements of the machined part, using this information to influence the production process during subsequent machining operations. Until now, NUMROTO users processed the results from the CMM with proprietary third party compensation software running on an external computer, before feeding a suitably corrected target profile back into the CNC machine.

Developed in conjunction with several key NUMROTO end users, NUM’s new form compensation facility forms a fully integrated part of the company’s form cutter package and completely dispenses with the need for any third-party software. The data exchange between the CMM and the CNC machine can be handled by XML interface or by export/import of the DXF file via a local area network.

The form compensation software employs advanced filtering algorithms to create a very smooth and precise compensation profile. The software always calculates the orientation of the grinding wheel and the path speed from the original profile, so that only the position of the contact point on the cutting edge is compensated – and not the orientation of the grinding wheel. This ensures that the surface quality of the tool is unaffected by the compensation.

NUM’s new form compensation option is compatible with NUMROTO version 4.1.2 or later.

First launched in 1987, NUMROTO software has become the preferred choice for many of the world’s leading manufacturers of CNC machines for the production and re-sharpening of tools such as end-mills, drills, step drills, form cutters and many others. It is currently used on more than 6,000 machines worldwide.

Compared to most competitive products on the market, the software provides a much more direct and efficient path between tool design, manufacture and verification. For more information, visit https://num.com.
