The Autodesk Foundation supports the design and creation of innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges by providing risk-tolerant funding, technology and talent to nonprofits and social enterprises to help them maximize and scale their impact. For the past six years, Microdesk has proudly contributed resources, time and consultants to a variety of impact-driven projects around the world. This multi-year effort acknowledges Microdesk’s exceptional BIM expertise and steadfast dedication to their global clients beyond standard project support. Working with Autodesk Foundation’s portfolio provides an opportunity for Microdesk to continue developing solutions that enable AEC firms to virtualize, engineer and construct sustainable projects globally.

Microdesk experts have collaborated with several Autodesk Foundation customers including multi-disciplinary architecture firm MASS Design; global building design and analysis specialist Build Health International; bamboo structural manufacturer BamCore; disaster-resistance and recovery educator Build Change; and residential housing provider Habitat for Humanity. Microdesk provides high-quality, comprehensive project support across a range of services, from BIM implementation training to standards and applications development. This work also provides an opportunity to leverage the latest in AEC software capabilities like energy and ventilation analysis, computational fluid dynamics and generative design.

Autodesk Foundation’s Head of Partnerships Engagement, Christine Stoner noted, “We’re proud to continue our work with Microdesk for another year. Their knowledge and passion for sustainable projects benefits our customers every day, and their ability to upskill our customers on emerging technologies helps scale sustainable innovations faster.”

Last year, a partnership between Microdesk and Autodesk Foundation customer Build Health International helped design an energy-efficient maternal healthcare facility in a resource-deprived region of Sierra Leone, Africa. Through various analyses and model iterations, Microdesk was able to craft a plan for a facility that could provide adequate lighting for bedside tasks utilizing skylights to minimize electric and material demands. A similar project completed with Build Health International was presented by Microdesk Client Success Manager Clarke Morrison and Solution Specialist Luc Wing at Autodesk University in 2020.

“Collaborating with the Autodesk Foundation has been incredibly rewarding as it allows us to support and help drive the impactful work being completed by non-profit organizations whose values toward sustainability align with our own,” said Microdesk Co-Founder and CEO Michael DeLacey. “We believe that the AEC industry at large has a responsibility to address the challenges associated with massive urbanization and this type of work gives us an opportunity to explore solutions with some of the brightest minds in the field.”
