Nakamura Tome Releases Next-Gen Chip-Braking Function

HAKUSAN, Ishikawa, Japan, Mar 6, 2026 – Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry Co., Ltd. has enhanced its proprietary chip-breaking technology “Triangle Cut*1” and is pleased to announce the release of the evolved version, “High-Speed Triangle Cut.”

High‑Speed Triangle Cut introduces an optimized tool path that addresses the main drawback of the conventional version—longer machining time—while maintaining strong chip‑breaking performance.

Like the conventional Triangle Cut, the advanced version is supported on Nakamura‑Tome box‑way slide machines.

What is Triangle Cut?

It is an optional function that breaks chips by controlling the cutting path in a triangular motion. By generating this triangular path, the cutting edge periodically moves away from the workpiece, creating air-cutting intervals that divide the chips.

However, because this machining method continuously traces triangular tool paths throughout the entire cutting process, machining time tended to increase to approximately 2.7 to 3 times that of normal machining.

What is High-Speed Triangle Cut?

High-Speed Triangle Cut is a chip-breaking function based on a newly developed machining path that further evolves the conventional Triangle Cut.

In the conventional Triangle Cut, a triangular path is generated continuously throughout the entire machining process. In contrast, High-Speed Triangle Cut allows the pitch of the triangular motion to be adjusted. Sections outside the triangular motion follow a normal turning operation, reducing the cutting distance and significantly shortening machining time.

How to Use High-Speed Triangle Cut

High-Speed Triangle Cut is activated by enclosing the relevant section of the machining program with the dedicated G codes G338 (start) and G339 (end). When the H parameter is specified, the operation switches to High-Speed Triangle Cut mode*2.

*2 If the H parameter is not specified, the operation follows the conventional Triangle Cut motion.
