PUCHHEIM, Germany, Jul 22, 2024 – SCANLAB GmbH has expanded the functional scope of its calculation app ‘SCANcalc’. The free app simplifies calculations for users when checking scan parameters for their individual requirements. Since 2017, the app has been able to calculate the focus diameter and display the accuracy of various 2D scanning systems at a selected focal length. The new app version now also includes 3D systems. This means that spot size and Rayleigh length can now be easily calculated for the latter at the touch of a button.
The selection of the optimum scan system is based on fundamental factors such as the laser power, the need for dynamics and the required precision. The technical specifications of the respective 2D or 3D scan head must then be carefully matched with the required process parameters. 3D scanners are often used in additive manufacturing, for laser welding and other applications.
The updated SCANcalc version 1.40, including 3D scanners, is available as an iOS and Android version in the common app stores in German and English. The free app includes the glossary ‘SCANpedia’, which explains technical terms, as well as a detailed help menu for questions around the calculations. As soon as the app has been installed, it can be used at any time without an internet connection.
