Walter Introduces New Tiger·tec Gold Turning Grades for Stainless Steel Materials

TUBINGEN, Germany, Aug 19, 2026 – Whether for offshore applications, oil and gas production, food manufacturing, or the defence, chemical or energy industry: with the new Tiger·tec Gold MT-TiCN-CVD turning grades WMP20G and WMP30G, Walter is responding to the growing global demand for stainless steel components. The universal grade WMP20G is the first choice for traditional applications working with ISO M materials. Thanks to its hardness, it is ideally suited to high cutting speeds and mass production. It is designed to deliver maximum productivity and a long tool life when machining austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and duplex materials up to ISO P. The tougher WMP30G grade is a problem-solver, particularly for large and expensive components as well as in single part manufacture, where maximum reliability is paramount. Walter cites the turning of weld seams in armor plating as a typical example.

The most significant special feature lies in the new gradient Substrate: thanks to localized cobalt insertions, it is particularly tough at the cutting edge but hard at the core. This protects the cutting edge from chip impact and helps to minimize fractures. Added to this is a double post-treatment of the cutting edge, which reduces friction. This completely new type of indexable insert design is rounded off by a Tiger·tec® Gold coating specially adapted for ISO M machining, as well as the stable RM7 roughing geometry. This is particularly suitable for machining forged parts or for standard geometries that are prone to fractures when turning against a shoulder. Together, they form a solution package that is unique on the market to date, offering the highest levels of reliability and Wear resistance and suitable for use across the entire range of stainless steels right through to carbon steel.
