OREM, UT, USA, Aug 7, 2026 – Coreform pleased to announce the release of Coreform IGA for Abaqus, an add-in that allows Abaqus users to run analysis directly on CAD geometry without first building a finite element mesh. It is available now from Coreform and from participating Abaqus resellers.
Coreform IGA for Abaqus works inside Abaqus/CAE and submits to Abaqus/Standard through Abaqus user element functionality. Analysts import CAD, assign materials, apply loads and boundary conditions in the interface they already use, and submit the job the way they always have. What changes is the discretization underneath. Abaqus material models, analysis procedures, output requests, and post-processing all continue to apply.
The bottleneck this addresses sits upstream of the solver. Sandia National Laboratories time-to-solution data for hex-dominant workflows places roughly eighty percent of total analysis time in defeaturing, decomposition, meshing, and setup. That work does not improve the product being designed. It exists only to make the geometry usable by the solver, and it has to be redone with every design revision.
Isogeometric analysis removes the step by discretizing the CAD spline geometry itself. Coreform’s volumetric trimming extends the surface trimming that modern CAD kernels already depend on into three dimensions, allowing exact boundaries and small features to survive into the analysis rather than being simplified away to make meshing tractable.
At release, Coreform IGA for Abaqus supports linear static stress analysis, assemblies, thermal expansion, and thin-walled solid parts as production capabilities, and models may combine isogeometric and conventional finite element regions. Large deformation, nearly incompressible plasticity, mechanical contact, metal plasticity, and frequency extraction are available as beta capabilities.
The add-in requires Abaqus 2026 hotfix 5 and supports Abaqus/Standard. Abaqus/Explicit is not supported in this release. Any CAD that imports into Abaqus/CAE is supported. Coreform IGA for Abaqus runs on Windows and Linux and is licensed separately from Abaqus, with early adopter pricing available.
